How To Become A Teacher And Get A Teaching Job In Uk

Teachers are passionate and satisfied when it comes to educating children and younger pupil, according to research conducted by BESA (British Educational Suppliers Association).
There are wide varieties of subjects that you can teach depending on whether you want to become primary or secondary school teacher.
For primary level there are 3 subject options:
• Primary
• Primary as a PE specialist
• Primary as a math’s specialist
For secondary level, there are around 19 subjects. But some of the priority subjects are:
• Math’s
• Physics
• Chemistry
• Computing Languages
• Biology
• Geography
But some others subjects like English, History, Music etc are also available but the priority subjects attract higher funding and additional support.
If you are interested in becoming a teacher, it’s useful to spend some time with a school. This can be done as a volunteer or observer, or doing practical work experience as teaching assistants. This would assist in making a decision of is teaching a right career choice for you.

To become a qualified teacher, you need to go through training. There are 2 routes for training, School-led, and University-led.
In school-led training, graduates get hands-on training in at least two schools school. The training generally lasts for one year and would give you an opportunity to work with experienced colleagues. At the end of the training, you would be awarded a qualified teacher status (QTS). You can also include a postgraduate qualification and gain a Master’s degree as well.
In university-led training, both graduates and undergraduates would be trained in a university or college. For undergraduates, you get a degree in teaching and QTS together. This is a three or four year’s course. And includes practical training in classrooms. But for graduates, there are postgraduate courses that last for one year and two years if part-time. You will also spend around 24 weeks in placement schools to further develop your skills.
Financial support during training
• For school-led training, there is a lot of financial support available. Depending upon your subject, you can get up to £30,000 tax-free bursary.
• If you are a graduate and has three years of experience in any field, you are eligible for School Direct programme, where while you are training you can get up to £25,000 as a salary.

After training
As a newly qualified teacher (NQTs) in England and Wales, you will start on a salary of at least £22,244 – or £27,819. A salary across inner London is highest across the country but has a high living, commute expenses.
Searching teaching jobs is also a bit of a daunting process. But it’s same for all first-time jobs. By December and New Year, schools start advertising their vacant roles and are filled up by April.
