As a regular user of database applications you must be aware of the consequences that you may need to get resolved after the abrupt shutdown of a database application or the computer system while the database file or the application is open. Abruptly exiting the database application may corrupt the database file due to which you may need to bear the data loss. MDB file of Access is also not safe from the damage. The file can get damaged if you improperly exit the MS Access. To avoid corruptions caused due to abrupt shutdown, make sure that you do not abruptly close the application and also check that you have sufficient power backup so that in case of power outage, you can properly close the application before your system gets shutdown. When MDB file gets damaged, you may encounter anyone of the following error messages:
The database 'databasename.mdb' needs to be repaired or isn't a Microsoft Access database file
Record(s) can't be read, no read permissions on 'databasename.mdb'
Unexpected Error 35012
Unrecognized database format 'databasename.mdb'
Databasename.mdb' isn't an index in this table. ...
... Look in the Indexes collection of the TableDef object to determine the valid index names
The Microsoft Jet database engine could not find the object 'databases'. Make sure the object exists and that you spell its name and path name correctly
The database has been placed in a state by user '' on machine '' that prevents it from being opened or locked
Disk Error -- Reserved error (-1601)
The database has been placed in an unexpected state
Record(s) cannot be read; no read permission on 'MSysObjects'
Record(s) cannot be read; no read permission on 'MSysACEs'
The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot find the input table or query 'MSysAccessObjects'. Make sure it exists and that its name is spelled correctly
Due to any of the aforementioned error messages, you cannot continue using the MDB file until you do not restore the file from backup or repair the file. Restoring backup to avoid data loss is the best and simple way. However, to recover every byte of data stored in the damaged MDB file, you must have full backup of the damaged MDB file. If you do not have full backup of the MDB file then you may lose the data stored in damaged database file after the last backup was performed. In that case, you should repair the damaged MDB file instead of restoring the MDB file from backup.
You can easily repair the damaged MDB file by using an Access Recovery tool. An Access repair tool can be easily obtained; however, while selecting an Access repair tool to repair Access database, you must not compromise with the software quality. Always try to search a cost-effective and feature full Access repair tool.
