Why Giclee Prints Are Such A Great Idea
Giclee is the name given to the process of making fine art prints using ink jet printing from a digital source. The word Giclee has been derived from a French word le gicleur which means nozzle or to spurt, squirt or spray. It was Jack Duganne, a printmaker who coined the term Giclee. Giclee prints are of very high quality and are fine art that can be hanged as wall decorations. Giclee prints are perfect for mass-producing a painting or an image quickly and inexpensively.
Giclee is the most common method used these days to print a photo on canvas. People, who want to preserve a cherished photo for a long time to come, opt for a photo canvas to be done. They make for perfect wall hangings to show off to friends and family. In fact a photo canvas if done on good quality paper and using archival ink, will last for a couple of centuries at least. More and more people are opting to get photo on canvas instead of burying critical photos in photo albums which are hardly looked at.
Giclee prints have come to the rescue ...
... of artists who don't want to actually mass-produce their works of art, but want to reproduce on demand, whenever they want to. Digital archiving a certain image will make latter reproductions a lot cheaper and require minimal effort. The up-front cost that is demanded for mass producing an edition is thus eliminated. Once an artist archives his work, he can breathe easy knowing that it will not deteriorate in quality as is the case with film and negatives. Moreover, another wonderful advantage an artist will have is that he can produce images of whatever size he wants and on any media he wants. Custom photo canvas to suit the demands of particular customers is thus a lot easier.
Giclee prints are not only meant for artists but also for common people like you and me. Cherished photos of the family on a picnic together, the graduation day of a child, a wedding in the family or a fun time you had with your best friend, all of them can be preserved with a photo on canvas printing. There are numerous websites on the internet which will let you email the digital photo or upload it on their website directly. The website will charge you an extra fee if you want touch-ups. If it is an old photo you want printed, the website will even do a restoration for it. Always insist on the use of good quality thick paper, strong canvas, archival quality ink and good frames as all of them together will produce a print that you will cherish. The methods that are used today are very sophisticated and you will have your canvas delivered to you right at your home. So, get out that old photo which brings back so many fond memories from your photo album and get it canvas printed.
