Obesity In Largely Found In Urban Women
Dr. Muffazal Lakdawala is a renowned bariatric and sleeve gastrectomy surgeon in India. He has helped many obese patients adopt a healthier lifestyle after metabolic surgeries and lose weight successfully. The surgeon states that a direct link has been found between obesity and diabetes through clinical trials, especially amongst women. The past decade has witnessed a 32 percent increase of cases of diabetes in women. In another study it has been found that in 1 out 12 cases of obesity related disease, weight gain has been a reason for cancer in women. Dr. Muffazal Lakdawala sites the new age lifestyle, fast food and a lack of exercise as reasons for obesity amongst women. Obesity is not only a health threat for women but also affects fertility and decreases their chances of conceiving.
Dr. Muffazal Lakdawala also states that rapid weight gain during pregnancy can lead to a number of complications like preeclampsia, cesarean section and postnatal infections. Preeclampsia is a condition which is characterized by high blood pressure and presence of protein in the urine during pregnancy. Preeclampsia not only affects the ...
... mother it also affects the unborn child as it obstructs the flow of blood to the womb. Women who gain weight during pregnancy also have to face complications like a cesarean section during childbirth. The risk of postnatal infections too becomes higher in obese women. Especially women who gained excessive weight during pregnancy and have undergone a C-section are more prone to the risk of developing postnatal infections and this in turn slows down recovery.
Dr.Muffazal Lakdawala states various measures like regular biking, walking, swimming, etc. to keep a check on weight gain. He also suggests avoiding fast food and rather taking time out and opting for home cooked food for the prevention of weight gain. He also suggests not watching T.V. while eating as it affects the ability of people to judge how much food they have had and a person can end up eating more than regular. In case of eating out he suggests eating light baked food which is low in calories. He states that bariatric surgery is a good option for women who are unable to cope with their lifestyle due to obesity. According to the second conference held for the Asian Consensus Meeting on Metabolic Surgery, bariatric surgery, especially sleeve gastrectomy is a practical and good option for obese women in Asia.
Muffazal Lakdawala, the Founder and Director of CODS created a support centre to battle the cause of obesity. Dr. Muffazal Lakdawala is also the Founder member of IFSO which has increased the visibility of Asian surgical fraternity.
