Don't Let Obesity Get On You

Kaushal Shah finds himself in the list of people who have been advised by Dr. Muffazal Lakdawala to get a surgery called Sleeve Gastrectomy. Kaushal had attracted attention all his life, not because he was an eminent personality but due to his obesity. He had been overweight for almost his entire life. He was plump as a kid and by the time he hit his teens, Kaushal scaled up to be a 100 kilos. With each passing year he became more and more conscious about his weight and started to withdraw from society. By the year 2003 he finally decided to seek medical help. With doctors blaming his condition on satiety issues, for which there exist no tests, Kaushal began facing serious issues in his personal as well as professional life.
Kaushal wound up his business as it required him to travel, which he could not cope with. The plane seats felt small and uncomfortable as they were not able to accommodate his large frame. A simple trip got complicated for Kaushal as he struggled with questions like how much would he be required to walk? How many steps would he have to take? Would an elevator be available? He then started to look ...
... for other business opportunities as he was confined to his room. Following up with debtors and recovering money for his friend was one of the tasks he took up to earn a livelihood. 2007 and 2008 marked the toughest years for Kaushal as he stayed in his room with all the curtains drawn and simply stayed put. He partnered with a friend and worked from home while his friends and family constantly ensured that he did not spiral out of control.
After consulting a host of doctors and minimal results Kaushal came in contact with Dr. Muffazal Lakdawala who advised him to go for the advanced surgery that would reduce his weight and lessen the risk of complications that could arise given his condition. The surgery would reduce the size of his stomach to 15% of its original size by the surgical removal of a large portion of the stomach. He went in for the surgery in February 2009 when his weight was almost 250 kilos. Post surgery his weight dropped to 192 kilos and he now ventures out of his room. He has now pulled back the curtains of his room and started going for an obesity support group, all thanks to the timely advice of Dr. Muffazal Lakdawala.
Muffazal Lakdawala, the Founder and Director of CODS created a support centre to battle the cause of obesity. Dr. Muffazal Lakdawala is also the Founder member of IFSO which has increased the visibility of Asian surgical fraternity.
