Why Teak Is So Precious?
Teak has always been a prized material. Teak possesses an abundance of natural oils and qualities that other woods don’t have. However with the surge in popularity in teak indoor and outdoor furniture, prices have increased as supplies dwindle. Teak is now protected timber and all Teak furniture is required to be manufactured from either recycled or plantation timber.
The Indonesian government has a corporation in place dedicated to managing one of the nation’s most valuable natural resources to facilitate a predetermined number of trees that can be felled each year. The transformation process
Each step of the process is carefully constructed to maintain the highest quality and care of this prized wood. The first stage of the process begins on arrival where all teak logs are numbered so their supply can be tracked at all times just in case there’s a concern with quality or structure. The tracking system also allows authorities to guarantee it is plantation timber, and all logs are plantation timber certified.
The manufacturer equips seven large kilns which work continuously to dry the timber to its required moisture content, a process that takes almost three weeks with the kilns operating 24 hours a day. The process of timber stacked in the kiln to prepare for drying is manually monitored; every minute, of every day.
The next stage is as meticulous as it is caring with the timber being stacked in organised piles to enable the beginning of manufacturer’s precise method.
The furniture is given an inspection and finishing treatment. Generous time is allowed to ensure the furniture holds no imperfections in its workmanship or timber. Next, the furniture is given a quality control inspection before packaging.
The final stage is simple but thorough: the products are packed carefully before dispatch.
