Before buying the tickets to the great musical you would like to know a little about the show. Fela is a musical show based on the music and life of a Nigerian musician of the same name. It describes his life as a composer, political activist, innovative musician and artist. He established the afrobeat music. James Brown as the creator of funk refers him.

Kuti was born in Abeokuta, Ogun State in Nigeria. His birth name was Olufela Olusegun Oludotun Ransome-Kuti. He belonged to a middle-class family. Kuti's mother was a feminist activist. His father was the principal of a school and a Protestant minister. His two brothers are renowned doctors in Nigeria.

Kuti went to become a doctor in London in the year 1958 but later decided to learn music at the Trinity College of Music. Fela created a band called Koola Lobitos there and started to play a new music style which later came to be known as Afrobeat. Afrobeat was the blend of jazz, funk and highlife.

He got married to Remilekun Taylor in 1960. He had three children with her. Then he went back to Nigeria and formed his band Koola Lobitos again. He took training ...
... in radio production. He took his band to the US in 1969. He then found out about the movement called Black Power and named his band as Nigeria'70.

Fela returned back to Nigeria and renamed his band as Africa'70. He created Kalakuta Republic which was a recording studio, commune, as well as home for those associated with the band. He also established a nightclub and named it Afro-Spot and later Afrika Shrine. He performed there regularly. Kuti and his band, Afrika '70 released the album Zombie which was a hit. However, it became a cause of fury to the government. Kuti was beaten up severely and his mother was thrown out of a window. His studio was burnt destroying all his master tapes and instruments. He along with his band members took shelter in Crossroads hotel. Fela married twenty-seven women in 1978 from his band as a mark of attack on Kalakuta Republic. In that year, riots took place after the concert in Accra. His musicians also left him after the Berlin Jazz Festival because of rumors that Kuti was thinking of using the entire fund for his campaign for presidential election.

But he came back in spite of the setbacks and established his political party, Movement of the People. After his refusal for presidential elections, he created another band known as Egypt 80. The military government jailed him for smuggling of currency in 1984. Fela performed at the Giants Stadium in New Jersey in the year 1986. Thereafter, in 1989, Egypt 80 released Beasts of No Nation. In 1990s, his album production stopped.

The present cast includes Sahr Ngaujah, Lillias White, and Saycon Sengbloh. You can enjoy the musical show by booking tickets online. Remember to buy your tickets from an authorized online ticket broker for enjoying the enchanting music of Fela.
