If you're someone who can't simply start the day without reading newspapers and someone who's very interested on what's happening around you, a career in journalism might suit you. How would you feel about writing newspaper articles? Would you like to see your name on these pages and be able to inform a huge group of people? Then, let me help you learn the ropes of writing newspaper articles. Here's what you need to do:

1. Get education. If you intend to write for a prestigious newspaper, a degree in journalism might be required. Don't worry as you don't need to go back to your local college as you can get a degree by taking relevant courses online. Depending on the amount of time you're willing put in, you can get your diploma in as fast as 6 months.

2. Choose your topics. Write something that is current and newsworthy. Being a journalist isn't all about sitting in front of your computer all day. The job requires some field work. Depending on your beat, you may want to stay at local police stations, congress, the senate, or even at the white house to get the kind of news that you need.

3. Research. Collect ...
... as much information as you can about your chosen topics. You would want to be able to answer all the why, what, where, how, when, and who questions of your readers. Talk to all the people who are involved in your stories. Get their opinions. It would also help if you get the opinions of those people who will get affected with the story. For example, you can talk to consumers when you're talking about price increase.

4. Create a draft. Once you got all the information you need, the next thing to do is to create your draft. To feel more confident, allow yourself to commit mistakes. Focus on putting everything you've gathered into writing without paying much attention to the grammar, spelling, and other mistakes that you commit. You can edit your draft later on.

5. Revise your draft. Carefully study your draft. Then, arrange the information you put in and arrange them in a logical manner. You would want to be able to write your articles in such a way that your readers would want to read them until the end.

6. Use the inverted pyramid technique. Based on studies and research, people who read newspapers do not really spend time reading articles word for word as they're pressed for time. As a journalist, it's your job to make sure that they're informed no matter how little time they can spend in reading your articles. You can do this by presenting all the information that they need to know on your lead paragraph. This is the best place where you can answer all the possible questions of your audience.

7. Use quotes. Interview key players involved in your stories. Ask them about their opinions and use these as quotes. These can make your newspaper articles more engaging and more interesting to read.

8. Check your articles. Make your editor happy by making sure that your articles are ready to be published when you submit them. They must be free from grammar, format, and spelling errors. Also, you must have already verified all the information to make sure that they're factual.
