Buying a new house in France you have to think not only what furniture to buy and the colours of the walls, but also it is important to envisage the flooring of your new house especially if it is going to be your primary home. You have to take lots of things into consideration before making this decision.

One of the most beautiful and chic floorings is the parquet, but it is also expensive and easy to be marred up and it is not liquid spill proof, moreover this kind of flooring needs to be looked after very carefully. If you have enough money and time to wax your floor good luck with this daring decision. And in this case it is not advisable to have any pet having access to your floor. A cage with a bird can be a way out because this kind of pet probably might not damage it.

Chances are your new house will have some land around or at least a garden, so if you are a gardener and have animals you might want to seriously consider having the floors tiled and then having large rugs on top. Many people in France do not like large rugs everywhere because these cosy carpets collect much dust. Tiled floors are much easier ...
... to keep clean and more hygienic. If you really like carpets why not just have them in the bedrooms. There are also English carpet fitters in France which you can find on the various classified websites and in other local papers.

Once you made up your mind to have your floors tiled there are many tillers in France at your service. You can even meet English tillers that have been in business here for a long time. Hiring a tiller you can check out some of their work and see if the quality satisfies your requirements. They can also advise you on what type of tiles to buy and you will decide only the way it will look making your individual choice. You can choose from tiles that are rustic, very French looking, mosaic and modern, classic or funky. The colours are vast as they like colour in France. You will be confused by a massive range of tiles for your kitchen walls and for splash backs. They have everything from plain colours to the most amazing story designs and it will be hard for you to make your choice. The only criterion which can be really helpful is the price. It will be a dividing line which narrows your choice.

You may choose laminate flooring and it can be a good alternative if you don't want tiles which can be cold if you are not used to them. Laminate is warmer and also easy to keep clean if you have dogs and cats. But if you want this material it is advisable to use those kinds of laminate which are liquid spill proof.

Thinking about the flooring you should take into account the way your house is going to be heated. So if you have a real fireplace and bring wood and logs into your house you don't want to be picking bits of bark etc out of a carpet but if you are having radiators you won't have this problem. Speak to people ask them for their stories and advice before rushing into anything. They will love to tell you about their experiences about French way of life and might save you from mistakes.
