Iceland is one of the most loved places for the fishing enthusiasts and even the amateurs. The country has been working recently on its tourism promotion and at the same time has put down laws to make sure that the natural environment is not disturbed tragically. So it is important to be well aware of the angling Iceland laws.

To begin with, trout is a migratory fish and the fishing is open only from 1st April to 10th October. April is the time after winter and one shall find thin long varieties that have stayed and spawned during winter. There can also be a few of them that have not spawned. By the middle of May, it’s time for the trout to go back to sea and come back to the fishing grounds by mid July. By about September, the runs reach the peak till October. So if you are planning for a trout angling Iceland trip, then you can ideally make it during September to October time so that you can relish over your catch.

Most of the rivers in Iceland are known commonly for salmon fishing and therefore the fishing timing also opens up according to the salmon runs. ...
... These open late and close early so they are not ideal for trout fishing. There are also some areas on the south coast that are mostly inhabited by trouts, but due to extensive killing of fish, the numbers have decreased significantly. Therefore it is best suited to go angling on a catch and release trout angling river.

After 2002, it was brought to the notice of the authorities that the number of trout fishes in its natural habitat was declining rapidly and the river management agency took strict measures to ensure the fish safety. Fishing was allowed only with a fly bait and after the catch, the fish had to be released safely back into the waters. This policy change was initially seen with aversion but now anglers are thankful for the change of rules. The catch rates have increased with bigger fishes.

One should also have some small clues like getting the fly to the far bank can prove useful in landing easier as the bigger trouts are found in undercut banks on the deep runs. The banks are mostly booked up in September, so make sure that you book your place in a good trout angling river for September if you want to put some great angling Iceland photos to your fishing album.
