Will My Dental Implants Look Natural?
It’s bad enough when a patient loses a tooth and sports a gap-toothed smile, even for a brief period. It’s even worse when the permanent tooth replacement sticks out from the rest of the smile like the proverbial sore thumb.
Patients often request a tooth replacement option that replicates the appearance of a natural tooth.
Dental implants are the best choice for patients who have that goal in mind. It is a small device made of titanium which is inserted into the jawbone at the place of your missing teeth, allowing the bone to fuse with the implant. This is called Osseointegration and when the surrounding bone has been attached to the implant, a replacement tooth is crowned on the top of the implant.
Because they are titanium screws inserted into the jaw bone, dental implants are much less likely to move out of place than other tooth replacement alternatives. When used to replace a single tooth, a dental implant is topped with an artificial tooth cap, or crown, made of materials that approximate the natural luminosity of dental enamel. The crown can be designed to a particular patient’s specifications ...
... in terms of the tooth’s shade, shape and size.
Implants can even help to hold an entire arch of replacement teeth in place, and this technique is far superior to dentures in terms of appearance. With dental implants, the arch is anchored in place by a permanent structure, not an adhesive that may fail at any time.
While appearance is important to patients, the implant’s function is also a significant concern. In this aspect, too, dental implants outperform other tooth replacement techniques. An implant replaces the root of a missing tooth, helping to retain the jaw bone, which may erode when a different strategy, such as a bridge, is used to replace a tooth. This characteristic stabilizes the jaw bone over time.
An implant typically has little or no impact on a patient’s speech or diet, either. Because the implant works just like a natural tooth, patients are still able to enjoy all of their favorite dishes after the implant is placed.
You can brush and floss normally. The crowned tooth is coloured and shaped according to your natural teeth and structure. The implanted teeth will be stronger than the natural teeth and no one will be able to differentiate. You can eat anything you want to but will have to make sure that the area surrounding the implanted teeth is cleaned and maintained at all times.
Suitability for Dental Implant
Before being treated for dental implant, the doctor is required to find out about the overall health of the patient and whether or not they will be suitable for the particular treatment.Dental Implants are restricted as they cannot be treated for individuals who have diabetes, unhealthy gums, heart diseases, bleeding disorders, unhealthy jawbone, etc. So, you should go for a complete health check-up considering these aspects mainly and let the doctor know every detail for him to decide if you are a suitable candidate for the implant or not.
Duration of the procedure
This depends on the type of dental implant you are getting done like single tooth or multiple teeth replacement. Most dental implant procedures are relatively quick while the implant itself takes some time to heal and integrate with the jawbone in the gum line. This can take about 3 to 6 months of time after which the final procedure of crowning, bridging or dentures will be done.
Like any other dental procedure, discomforts during and after dental implant procedure will be experienced. However, proper Anaesthetic will prevent the pain during the procedure.
Comparison to natural teeth
Have no doubts about the strength of your implants as the implants are stronger than natural teeth in more than one aspect and provide complete functionality like brushing, flossing and eating whatever you want.
These and other factors require both technical expertise and a sense of artistry. Carefully considering all of them will help ensure your Dental Implants result in the smile you want.
