Why Use A Personal Trainer
In order to maintain overall health, there must be a combination of fitness, health, sports and nutrition services. These can be provided by health pros, which may include personal trainers, activity directors, health instructors and nutritionists.
Personal trainers provide individualized instruction and supervision during a fitness routine. A personal trainer can assess a person's strengths and weaknesses and also develop a training routine for that person alone. It may include weight training, calisthenics, aerobic exercise and other routines. Depending on what the individual wants, concentration on only one or two of those areas may occur too. A personal trainer can encourage without bullying, and provide motivation without allowing his client to overdo it.
Activity directors can work with one person or a group. They can coordinate and implement different activities, which may include organized sports groups for basketball, softball, football, tennis or other similar activities. They also may direct groups of people who have one thing in common such as jogging or swimming.
Health instructors can provide ...
... information on staying healthy. In addition, they can provide simple first aid and treatment for minor injuries or problems. If they are trained to do so, they can monitor a client's heart rate, blood pressure and respiration before, during and after exercise. In this way, they can assure that the client is getting the most benefit out of the workout or routine, but is not compromising his health in any way. This can be especially important if a client has a heart condition or a chronic illness which does not preclude exercise and fitness routines, but does require careful monitoring.
A nutritionist concentrates on a client's dietary requirements. With information provided by the client, the nutritionist can formulate a diet plan, and assist the client in following it. A nutritionist can also monitor a client's weight, and help the client adjust caloric and nutritional intake so that an optimum weight is maintained. This applies to both clients who are overweight and need to implement weight-loss measures and clients who may be underweight and need to gain weight so that their overall health as well as physical performance will improve.
Many organized fitness centers have staff members who are trained in one or all of the above areas. And, even though they are working for one organization, it is still possible for a personal trainer and nutritionist to work with individual clients.
Activity and group directors may have set days and times for their activities; however, they should have a flexible enough schedules that a client can find a day and time that is convenient to participate in the desired sport or activity.
It is not necessary to have health pros in order to maintain an overall healthy lifestyle; however, they are trained to provide information and support in their particular areas. It is possible to sometimes find one health pro that can do all these things, but if necessary, one or more health pros may need to be brought on board.
If there is more than one health professional, each one of them will need to coordinate and cooperate with each other, so that the client will receive the maximum benefits from everyone involved.
The client, too, should remember that the instructor is there to guide, instruct, and encourage. The client still has the responsibility of following the health pro's directions and instructions, both when they are together, and when they are not.
Trainer's can be an asset to one's physical fitness. If a client knows that he can contact someone who is familiar with his particular situation, then he will be more motivated to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
