Top 10 Steps To Chasing Your Dreams In The New Year
Many people are not very successful in pursuing their dreams or New Year's Resolutions, but it can be done. The question is "how"? Here are 10 steps you can take so you can chase YOUR dreams and desires into the new year.
1. Recognize and celebrate your success}
I'm sure 2009 wasn't a complete waste of your time, so sit down and reflect on the last twelve months and what you have accomplished. And write them down. Achievements can include things like "I was less stressed by.", or "I had more 'me' time", as well as the more tangible achievements of wealth and status.
Once you have your list, take some time to bask in the glory of the list and take pride in your achievements. You deserve it. We often take our achievements for granted, yet this is a key step in having the confidence to take on new challenges.
2. Determine your dreams and goals for 2010
Develop about 5 short, specific statements about what you really want to achieve in life, and in the next year. Write down a short paragraph on what it will be like when you have accomplished each of these goals. Be as descriptive as you can. Put ...
... this information somewhere you can easily get to it and read it to keep you inspired to achieve your goals.
3. Identify the key steps you need to take in the next 3 months
For each of your goals, determine the action steps you need to take to achieve them. Work on a 3 month timescale, as any longer is looking too far into the future. You can always adjust you steps if needed and determine new ones for the next 3 months.
And more importantly, identify the first step you need to take to start your journey towards your dream goal.
4. Commit to your plan
It is easy to get distracted by life, but if you really want to achieve the goals you set at the in Step 2, you need to commit to your plan and understand that the action steps in Step 3 are your priority if you are to achieve the life you really desire.
5. Get support
You will be a lot more successful and productive in progressing towards your goals if you have support. Emotional support from a friend or family member and technical support from a diary or daily, planner to make sure you don't forget your action steps.
6. Take action
This is the most important step of all. Take that first step, then the second and so on. Once you start making progress, no matter how small, your confidence and enthusiasm will begin to grow too.
7. Track your progress
This may be on a daily, weekly or monthly basis, just choose what's right for you and your goal. The key here is to keep track of you wins and losses, learn from your mistakes and keep looking for that next step to take to keep you moving towards your goal.
8. Don't stress
At times, you may feel overwhelmed with everything you want to accomplish. But don't stress about it and be kind to yourself. Step by step you will get there, but things take time. Try not set yourself too many tasks to start with until you get into a good routine of completing action steps.
9. Celebrate your successes
It is very important to celebrate your achievements as you complete a goal, or make progress towards an end result. Choose to celebrate in a way that you will appreciate, and doesn't take away from what you've accomplished.
10. Repeat
If you have chosen some big goals and dreams, you may not fully complete them in the first 3 months, so just repeat the above process and identify what you need to do in the next 3 months to continue to work towards your goal.
