Improving The Methods Of Student Assessment In Schools
The results of education and training are apparent in the candidate of the student while on the process of education itself. Classroom interactions with students and teachers can indicate a lot about the quality, at the same time, improvement of learning as well as teaching. Assessment of students is necessary because general interactions cannot adequately evaluate their progress.
The processes of assessment followed by most educational institutions are monotonic and they follow a similar pattern. Exams and tests are the standard methods of assessment and the results are considered as a measure of the learner’s progress. The questions now are: How efficient are these assessment at evaluation of a student? Are they efficient enough to bring out the actual progress of the student or was it just to analyze if the students received what was communicated to them?

Rather than limiting the process of evaluation only to pen and paper, assessment should focus on applicability of the knowledge. This will be an evaluation of the creative skills of students and their skill to apply their knowledge practically. Integrating technology with assessment procedures is an efficient way to improve the process. This will make the process more pervasive. Digital devices integrated with test materials and self-evaluation kits can be provided to students. This can connected and monitored by their mentors at real time, which will provide a better gist of the student’s progress.
Learning methodologies have undergone fundamental changes in recent times. Comprehensive development of students is brought under the ambit of formal education rather than narrowing down its reach to just academic improvement. Learning is now skill oriented and is centered on the student’s potential instead of binding students to a monolithic structure of education. Success of assessment can be ensured only if the student’s actual progress and growth can be evaluated. The traditional methods of evaluation are efficient, but they are not accurate enough in determination of skills and progress in any student.
