Protecting The Environment The Energy Star Way
Energy Star is a program that was created by the US Department of Energy and the US Environmental Protection Agency to help everyone save money and at the same time protect the environment through practices and products that are energy efficient. The EPA (US Environmental Protection Agency) developed Energy Star as a voluntary labeling program to associate and promote energy-efficient products to help lower greenhouse gas emissions.
This program began as a way to decrease the draining of energy from computers and has now grown into covering over 50 product categories. This program has grown very large, but of course, the main goal is still the same: to keep energy from being wasted through devices and methods in technology.
Computers and monitors were the products labeled first. In 1995 the EPA extended the label to office equipment, cooling equipment and residential heating. The US Department of Energy and the EPA joined together in 1996 in creating particular product categories. The Energy Star label can now been seen on major appliances, lighting, home electronics and more.
The label has even been extended ...
... to cover new homes and industrial and commercial buildings. Over the years, the results of this program have started to add up tremendously. Americans working together with Energy Star have saved enough energy in 2008 in an amount that avoids greenhouse gas emissions equal to those that come from 29 million cars. All of this was accomplished and at the same time $19 billion was saved on utility bills.
Energy Star can help everyone in making more energy efficient choices. If an energy efficient choice is made, a family can save nearly one third on energy bills without sacrificing style, features or even comfort. If you are looking for new products for your home, look for those that have the Energy Star label. They are made by following guidelines that are set by the US Department of Energy and the EPA.
If you are looking for an entirely new home, look for a home that has successfully earned the Energy Star. If you simply want to make energy efficient home improvements, EPA provides resources and tools to help in the planning and undertaking of many projects. Making some changes will reduce energy bills, improve the comfort in your home and help the environment. Replacing and updating older cooling and heating systems with newer, more energy-efficient ones is a great start to having a greener home.
Another option is to do some heating repair or air conditioning repair on older equipment. Canton air conditioning repair can make sure you are getting the best performance from you equipment. Central air conditioners that are qualified as Energy Star are 14% more efficient than a standard model. Canton heating repair can also repair heating in a home so that is Energy Star quality. By repairing both types of heating and air equipment, money will be saved in the home and the environment will be better protected.
