This is particularly true in the mainstream commuter bike segment where buyers are very conscious about the maintenance cost. Bike manufacturers are aware of this and they are constantly working on various mileage enhancing technologies to achieve high fuel efficiency. Some of the best mileage bikes in India are discussed in this feature.

In some recent tests conducted by various automotive agencies, Hero MotoCorp bikes returned the highest mileage. Its latest Splendor iSmart tops the chart in fuel efficiency as well as in sales. In fact it is the world’s most fuel efficient bikedelivering a whooping mileage of 102.50 kmpl. Its 100 cc engine producing 7.9 bhp, works on a technology that automatically shuts the engine when idling and turns it on when needed, thus giving more fuel efficiency. The other Splendor series like Splendor Pro, Splendor Pro Classic and Splendor Plus also have managed to make it to the top ten fuel efficient bikes list. All these bikes belong to the 100 cc category and return a healthy mileage of 89-94 kmpl.

Following in closely, comes the tough and reliable Hero HF Dawn which gives nearly ...
... gives 88.56 kmpl. With minimal designs and features, this budget friendly bike can be truly said as a commoner’s bike. The Hero HF Deluxe is also high on the mileage factor and offers good features at a reasonable price tag. Besides it comes with added attractive looks and stylish 3D graphics. The standard Deluxe with a bikini fairing and the Deluxe Eco in green colour both mark their mileage at 88.56 kmpl.
The newly launched Platina from the house of the prestigious Bajaj is the second most fuel efficient bike in the country returning a healthy 96.90 kmpl. It comes with a 99.27 cc and a 102 cc engine producing 8.2 and 8.1 bhp of power respectively. These variants also prove cheaper than the above Hero bikes.

The long-standing Bajaj Discover now although old, is at par with new bikes in terms of performance and mileage. The Discover 100 series are powered by a carburettor engine coupled with an auto-choke and claim an average mileage of 91 kmpl. They also have the right mix of style, power and economy. The TVS Star Sport, powered by a 109 cc motor producing 7 bhp has its mileage figures at 87.7 kmpl. This bike is a sportier version of the popular TVS Start City.

To conclude, the mileage figures given here are only approximate and need not give the same numbers. And, one should remember that mileage yielded mostly depends on the riding style of the user and proper maintenance of the bike.
