The Cause Of Depression And Anxiety And The Treatments That Can Help

Anxiety:
Anxiety is most commonly associated with panic attacks, social anxiety and stress related disorders. These conditions can be common however normally vary on scale of intensity. Panic attacks are usually associated with other forms of anxiety like those mentioned above. They can occur for a number of reasons depending on the sufferer or can sometimes occur spontaneously. When these attacks occur, the body instinctively goes into a state known as 'Fight or Flight'. A number of things occur in the body when it responds like this. The person will experience an accelerated heart beat and will start to perspire as a result of the additional hormones being released throughout the body. The sensation of these excess hormones can also induce panic, therefore increasing the stress level even further. People who suffer social anxiety experience these panic attacks while in a social environment, either talking to people, being watched by other people or just simply being in their presence. These people commonly experience fear of embarrassment, judgement, feelings of self doubt amoung other things.
Depression:
If ...
... these disorders continue over long periods of time it can cause feelings of depression. Depression is particularly common in people who suffer self esteem issues, stress and sleeping disorders. Depression is known to be hereditary and is more common in teenagers due to increased hormones, or those who have suffered a loss in their life such as the death of a family member. However, the cause of depression is so hard to determine because it is also known to be able to affect anyone at any age who have not suffered any of the above factors. Doctors believe some people are more susceptible than others and their depression can be triggered a lot easier, however the reason for this is also unknown.
Symptoms Of Depression:
It is common for people with depression to become anti social and isolate themselves from family and friends. This is the main factor that makes depression so hard to cope with and be able to successfully treat. The symptoms of depression tend to vary between people depending on their personalities and method of coping. A person suffering depression is seen to be experiencing sadness, helplessness and hopelessness. These people normally come across as pessimistic and have low self esteem. It can deplete motivation even to the point where the sufferer may not be able to get out of bed. Treating depression becomes extremely hard when it gets to this point because sufferers do not have the energy or desire to seek help.
People can deal with depression in several ways often depending on their personality. Most people tend to put themselves down and fail to see their strengths which can cause their depression to become even worse. Some people will become angry and antisocial, isolating themselves from their support which can also often have a negative effect. Many people, more commonly teenagers and young adults are known to deal with depression by consuming alcohol or drugs. These substances are unhealthy and can have mental effects that can exponentially increase the effects of their condition. Unfortunately, depression not only makes the sufferer feel down and unhappy, it can also affect other areas of their life. Younger people tend drop their performance in school, others at work, and it can also have an impact on their relationships.
Fighting Against Depression:
The most important step is to realise that you're not alone. Depression effects one in four females and one in six males. You also need to realise that there is help out there and depression can be fixed. It is important to talk to professionals and others who have also suffered in order to learn skills that will help you overcome your depression.
