Deployment Automation In The Usa
There are basically two types of deployment, the manual deployment method and the automated deployment method. The difference between the two can simply be described as one can carry out the deployment without need of much manual configuration, while the other needs lots of manual configuration to fully deploy the software. Currently most of the software deployment companies prefer to use a fully automated process. Some companies are even using one-click- totally hands off deployment process. In the USA, this has become a very common phenomenon and nearly all companies are turning to the use of automated deployment process. The automated deployment process is associated with a high number of benefits, learning this benefit is pretty much like learning the features of this system. The following include some of these.
This deployment is less error prone and is much repeatable.Manual deployments are usually characterized by high degrees of errors. This is because humans are in a high likelihood of committingerrors. Some of the errors include: releaseare accidentally missed, use of incorrect versions of the software, broken ...
... software can also later results in problems. Automated deployments usually don’t suffer fromthisvariability. Once they are configured and set in the right manner, they will achieve same results every time.
Deployment can be done by anyone. When using an automated deployment process, the knowledge of how the software will be releases is usually stored by the system and not the individual. Use of the manually deployment methods means that a small group of individuals or even one person is responsible. In case of absence or any other challenges, theydeployment will be delayed or abandoned. With the automated way only pressing the deploy button is sufficient to initiate the deployment process.
Manual deployments are usually time-consuming. Engineers have to sepd their time developing software. This time could have been used by the engineers developing other software or convenient features. Time used to automate a deployment is usually in seconds. Engineers may only be required to spend time if anything has gone wrong, otherwise they don’t have to spend their time in this stage
While using the automated way deployment can be done on a frequent interval. A single deploymentusually has a low overhead process and this can be repeated on a frequentbasis. Frequent releasesare usuallypreferred but they also promote agile software development. Teamswhich use frequent releases are in a position of delivering valuable features in a more frequent manner.by doing so, they are in a position to gather much feedback and improve their products.
Deployment is not a headache when using the automated deployment method. Automated deployment arerepeatable, this reduces the headache associated with the deployment process. Also the target environment and machines can be easily changed.
The only challenge associated with automated deployment method, is that they take time to develop.
