Choosing Property Software - The Key Elements?

To effectively manage and control a property business it is generally accepted that a good property software package is essential. That's the easy bit though. There is a lot of choice out there and choosing the right product for you and your business is a significant business decision and one that you need to get right. Good packages do not come cheap either and you will naturally want to get the most from your investment. You will demand a lot from a property software package but if you keep two simple but essential points at the front of your mind you will not go far wrong in choosing the right one.
The first point is usability. Naturally you want a product that you understand and that you can use to its full potential. Anything less than this is a waste of your time and hard earned cash. How technological are you? You do not want a package that is to complicated for you and your business but conversely you do not want one that is not sophisticated enough for your business needs. Know yourself and know your business. Stay within your comfort zone and remember user friendliness is a sign of a well designed product. Do ...
... your research.
You will save yourself a lot of stress and trouble by rest driving the product in a demonstration. Prepare for this and ask questions but most importantly make sure you are comfortable using the software. Where a demonstration is not an option choose a product that others have tested and reviewed. Look for independent reviews from well respected professional bodies or specialist property magazines. There is a lot of helpful information out there.
The second key element is post sales support. Inevitably you will encounter issues and you will have questions. You should avoid any product that does not offer some level of support. Support can come in a variety of forms that include on site attendance, telephone support, email support or live chat. Ideally you should look for a support package that gives you access to help 24/7. Most of us do not work traditional office hours anymore and with the global nature of business these days those types of working patterns are redundant. If your system crashes you may lose control of your business so having help readily to hand is a must.
To summarize usability and support are the two elements that are not negotiable in a landlord software package. Keep these in mind and do your research and you will get the product you need.
