Dental implants are placed using a surgical procedure, when the artificial tooth roots are embedded into the jawbone to provide support for teeth replacements. The placement of implants is often not the only procedure to be done to provide solutions for missing teeth problems; there are other dental implant related treatments that ensure the success of the implant treatment. In some cases, the related procedure is done to maximise the safety of the patient in preparation for the placement of implants. Other treatments are done after the dental implants have been placed on the jawbone, as part of the entire procedure for replacing missing natural teeth.

Bone grafts and sinus grafts to improve the jawbone quality
Good jawbone quality is necessary for the successful placement of dental implants. In cases when the jawbone has atrophied, significantly thinned or is naturally thin to start with, a bone graft can be done prior to the implant placement. Bone grafting is the procedure of adding grafting material to the area where the implants need to be placed, so that the jawbone quality is improved to provide adequate ...
... support. It is very difficult to place dental implants if the jawbone is thin or lacks sufficient height due to a number of factors. Bone grafts make it possible for a patient to enjoy the benefits of an implant treatment, even if he or she has previously suffered from deterioration of the jawbone. A related procedure is the sinus graft, which is done to augment the quality and height of the upper jawbone in preparation for the dental implant placement. Also called as sinus lift, sinus grafting involves the lifting of the sinus membrane so that the area of the upper jawbone can be improved with the grafting material.

Overdentures for replacing the form and funtion of missing teeth
Overdentures are teeth replacements that are secured in place with a firm connection to the implants. Unlike removable dentures that have a tendency to become loose and are prone to uncontrollable movements, overdentures stay firmly in place because they are securely attached to the implants. The patient will not have to worry about denture that may move inside the mouth and possibly fall out of the mouth entirely. Overdentures replace the form and function of missing teeth, without problems of embarrassment and discomfort for the patient.

Gum grafts and nerve repositioning
Gum grafts are used to provide solutions for gum recession, and may be done before the placement of dental implants. A gum graft can improve the quality of the gum tissue to provide additional support for the implants. Meanwhile, nerve repositioning is a procedure used to shift the position of the inferior alveolar nerve (responsible for sensation in the lower jaw and chin areas) so that it will not be harmed or touched accidentally during the placement of dental implants.
