The Graston Technique is a form of instrument-assisted manual therapy. Its aim is to mobilise soft tissue and enable the therapist to break down fascial restrictions and scar tissues. It is also an ideal form of treatment if you have inflamed soft tissues in smaller areas or inflammatory injuries. Practitioners use stainless steel instruments that are specifically designed to find and treat areas that are showing signs of chronic inflammation or soft tissue fibrosis. The Graston Technique is extensively used in the athletic industry and, in sporting events and groups like Champions Tour, PGA Tour, Fulham, and Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club.

The goal of this treatment is to minimise pain and enhance function by breaking down fascia restrictions and scar tissue that are often linked with soft tissue trauma, such as a pulled tendon, ligament, or strained muscle. Moreover, it stretches the connective tissue to reduce restrictions and rearrange the structure of soft tissues. The Graston Technique in London aims to encourage a better recovery environment for injured soft tissues, too.

There are certain neurological ...
... benefits to being treated with Graston Technique instruments. Research suggests that instrument assisted, or manual soft tissue mobilisation therapy can activate nerve fibres. Moreover, certain sense organs like proprioceptors and mechanoreceptors have shown a response to this method of treatment, too. These responses are like those that are experienced in other manual therapies.

A simple muscle strain on the back or a torn ligament may restrict movement and cause unbearable pain. The Graston Technique can be an ideal form of treatment for such an injury. The treatment can resolve chronic conditions that were initially believed to be permanent, and minimise the need to take anti-inflammatory medications. The Graston Technique may be used solely or with other treatments.

Six major types of specially designed stainless steel tools are used in this technique. They are convex or concave, with rounded edges (not sharp). They can scan over injured fibrotic tissues and detect those. The process aims to identify injured areas and treat them using cross-friction massages.

Busy athletes who cannot afford any downtime appreciate the Graston Technique for soft tissue injuries. This is because it decreases the overall time allotted for treating injuries. Hence, recovery and rehabilitation times are enhanced for quicker healing. The Graston Technique in Guildford is practised by osteopaths, chiropractors, physical therapists, some licensed massage therapists, athletic trainers, and occupational therapists in the UK.
