India, more precisely northern India has a sizeable Tibetan population; with the Government in exile being run in Dharamsala by the Dalai Lama. Numerous Chinese steps taken; both military and diplomatic to silence and quell the rebellion have failed. The Indian Government has been overwhelmed by the Tibetan protests; and the security bandobast for the relay in New Delhi was comparable only to the R-Day. Its been heartening to see the support by Indian for Tibet, with everyone saying sovereignty of all lands must be respected.

All this; and the added pressure of my entrances perhaps, led to me to a very disturbing question. Is today's Indian youth the best example of hypocrisy the world has to offer? The kind of support Tibet draws is obviously encouraging to see, when we notice that the youth is not as ignorant as we thought it is. But what is also very sad is the kind of response these people give here in India for other national issues and on the ground, not just on Facebook with A Candle In My Window For Tibet groups.

Kashmir: An integral part of India; has been in the eye of a storm for the past sixty years. ...
... For those of you who are itching to raise their hands and contradict me, Id Say if the people and the King of the region wanted us to help, and our Home Minister laid down some conditions which they duly accepted without any undue influence or pressure from India, Kashmir stays within our boundaries on the map. They knew they were better off with us than the unstable and volatile Pakistani regime; and they also know they could not survive as an independent nation.

A thought which brings me to a very important question: When was the last time you saw a protest against Pakistani Militancy in Kashmir by India's youth? Or support for fleeing Kashmiri Pundits?

A few days back, a nationwide survey which aimed to find out solutions to the Kashmir problem had a staggering 60% of the young adults responding with a Really Doesn't Matter, Governments Should Settle It

Ill give you a few moments to think about that

This is the very section of society that has come out so strongly to support Tibet, when worse things happen in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir and in our Kashmir at the hands of the Mujahideen. Where women and children are killed, raped and kidnapped. Not a single day goes by when the news does not show mourning families and wailing mothers in Kashmir, whether they are civilians or members of our security forces who battle the enemy in our sovereign territory.

Is India being reduced to a land where the youth will simply vouch for a cause which has maximum media attention? Do we merely need something to blabber about on TV 24*7? Are we rebels without a cause? Or more aptly put: without a pause? Where do our loyalties lie? Do we really care for things that are not being done the right way? Or is it just the urge to do something everyone ELSE thinks is good.Is it freedom of expression? Or is it just hypocrisy?
