Jeep To Show Concept Vehicles At 49th Annual Easter Jeep Safari
The designers and engineers for Jeep and Mopar have really geared up for the nine-day 49th Annual Easter Jeep Safari to be held in Moab, Utah, on March 28 through April 5. For this off-roading extravaganza, Jeep is bringing seven new concepts with accessories. For Jeep, this “celebration of off-roading” is a once-a-year opportunity to receive direct feedback from thousands of true off-roading enthusiasts.
The designers, who have introduced as many as fifty new concepts in past years, approached this year from several angles by modifying existing models and introducing some entirely new body features and equipment. Complementing accessories supplied by Mopar offer functional and experience-enhancing touches to some unique Jeep prototypes.
Each of the seven concepts to be presented project a different style and theme. All of these are about getting closer to nature.
Jeep Chief: The Chief hearkens back to the 1970s era and the original Jeep Cherokee. With an ocean-blue exterior, white roof and removable sides, the Chief recalls the surfing culture of that earlier era. The blue and white cloth and ...
... leather seats serve to enhance that theme. With a 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine and a six-speed manual transmission, this go-anywhere 4-wheeler will look right at home on a sandy beach or dune.
Jeep Staff Car: This concept revisits Jeep’s legendary military role. Open-air or covered, the Staff Car is built on the four-door Wrangler chassis and is driven by the 3.6-liter Pentastar engine with a six-speed manual transmission. Underscoring the Staff Car’s original Army Jeep appearance is the minimal decorative features of no doors, basic steel wheels and bench seats. Taking the original look to the hilt, the Staff Car is equipped with a rear-mounted spare tire beside the traditional mounted reserve gas can. Underneath the sandstorm paint, this Jeep has all of the modern capability that make the Jeep Wrangler an off-road delight.
Jeep Wrangler Africa: Possibly the ultimate back-country vehicle, one can visualize this Wrangler racing over the savannas and deserts of Africa. The Wrangler Africa concept has plenty of room for extras and carries spare fuel tanks. Four-door with a tan exterior, this Wrangler is powered by a 2.8-liter diesel engine and an automatic transmission. The Africa is equipped with upscale shocks, sway bars and reinforced rear axles to absorb the impact of off-road action.
Jeep Grand Cherokee Overlander: Beginning with the Grand Cherokee elegance and comfort, this concept is adaptable to rugged handling on long trips over rough terrain. The Overlander targets those who head from the highway to the natural terrain, park or woods to spend some time, possibly camping. In fact, a custom two-person tent to be attached to the top is available. This Grand Cherokee is toughened up with off-road rock rails and skid plates, front and back. Also the front-mounted winch with tow hooks and large off-road tires make this Jeep trail-ready. Painted sage green and powered by a 3.0-liter diesel V-6 engine with an eight-speed Torquefight transmission, the Overlander will provide fun and comfort simultaneously.
Jeep Renegade Desert Hawk: Adapted from the Jeep Renegade, this concept is designed for desert adventures, as the name suggests. With off-road rock rails, protective skid plates and several Mopar accessories, the Desert Hawk is powered by a 2.4-liter Tigershark engine and a nine-speed automatic transmission.
Jeep Cherokee Canyon Trail: Raised for extra clearance, this Cherokee is modified to withstand the rockiest, most challenging terrain in the forests or mountains, while climbing boulders and traversing streams. The Canyon Trail has skid plates almost entirely across its underside and is powered by the 2.4-liter Tigershark MultiAir 2 I4 engine with a nine-speed automatic transmission.
Jeep Wrangler Red Rock Responder: This versatile Wrangler is specifically designed to respond to off-road emergencies. Able to handle the toughest terrain, the Responder, when fully equipped, is able to go where conventional emergency vehicles cannot. Equipped with side cargo boxes, off-road rock rails, winch, first aid kit, dual air compressor and room for more, the Responder is ready for action. The Red Rock Responder is powered by a 3.6-liter Pentastar engine with an automatic transmission.
