The Extraordinary Legacy Of Take That
The original lineup featured Gary Barlow, Howard Donald, Mark Owen, Jason Orange and Robin Williams, and the current incarnation does not include Orange or Williams. They have had 7 number 1 albums, and an impressive 56 number 1 singles internationally, and this proves that it was not just the Brits that fell in love with this boyband. It has not all been smooth sailing for the group however, as once Robin Williams left the band in 1995 they would break up a year later, much to the dismay of their adoring fans.
These fans would have to wait 10 long years before the band reformed in 2006 (minus Williams). This was for a reunion tour, and after the success of this the band decided to record new material together, and this would come in the form of 2006’s Beautiful World. They would follow this up with 2008’s The Circus, and with this they had firmly established themselves as back in the game and reached a whole new generation of fans. Fans of the original lineup had booked their Take That tickets well in advance and were then in for a huge treat when ...
... Robin Williams announced that he would be rejoining the band for their next album, Progress, which arrived in 2010. The addition of Williams created a huge amount of anticipation surrounding the record, and when it was released it became the second fastest selling album in British history.
The success that the band found in the early 90’s and again in the late 00’s proves what a talented group they are. There were dozens of boybands and pop acts from the 90’s, but few of them have found success outside of the 90’s and many faded into obscurity. Even when they were not making music, a number of the members were never far from the public eye, and a few have successful solo careers that they fell back on too.
2014 proved to be another great year for the group, nearly 20 years after they first formed. The band released their 7th studio album, simply called III. This refers to the fact that it was recorded as just the trio of Barlow, Donald and Owen. The album reached number 1, as did the preceding single titled ‘These Days’. With so much chart success, records broken and such an adoring fanbase which has only expanded with time, Take that are one of the greatest British groups of all time and the best boyband to emerge from the 1990’s.
The band is best known for classic singles including “Could it be Magic”, “Pray”, “Back for Good”, “Shine”, “Greatest Day”, “These Days” and many more fantastic hits that are much loved by fans of all age around the world. In addition to their great records, their live show is not to be missed and a huge part of their global appeal.
