Car Insurance Mistakes That Could Cost You
In the current economic recession, which is being felt the world over; people are looking for any way possible to save money. Car insurance can be a costly monthly expense, and one which we can unwittingly be raising on our own! In this article we will discuss the mistakes that motorists make that can have a negative effect on your premium and the amount of money you are spending each month.
Firstly, ensure that the car insurance company has all your correct details, such as your age, address, profession and type of vehicle. All these factors contribute towards your policy cost. This may seem trivial, but its not. For example, most insurance companies will also evaluate and base your premium on the area you live in, and how dangerous it is with regards to the statistics on vehicle accidents and theft. If you move house, you must inform your insurance company, as you may be in for a cheaper premium. Simple details such as the insurance company's admin capturing the incorrect date of your drivers license passing day could affect your premium greatly. It is also important to remember, especially if you move house or even ...
... change professions, that if you need to claim, the insurer will be within their right to refuse to pay out if they do not have your correct details.
Secondly, modifying your vehicle can be a dangerous decision. A lot of people enjoy adding enhancements to their motors to make them go faster, and drive better. Unfortunately, these cars are deemed as being more likely to be involved in an accident by the car insurance companies, as they usually go faster. They are also then more expensive to repair! If you modify your vehicle and do not inform your insurance company, they may not pay out when you need to claim. If you feel the need to make some alterations to your vehicle, be sure to inform your insurer, even if it means a more expensive premium every month, this is better than not getting a pay out at all should you need one.
You must ensure that you are driving the safest car possible, not only for your safety's sake, but for your premium too. Badly worn tires and brakes, and bad wheel alignment and steering could make you a hazard on the road. Keep your car regularly serviced to ensure that everything is in good running condition. If you drive a car that is not looked after properly, you could have an accident. The insurance assessor will pick up that your car was not maintained the way it should have been, and you will become a higher risk category person to insure.
Lastly, remember to be a cautious driver at all times. Keep both hands on the steering wheel and focus on the road, your driving, and the road activity around you. Do not allow yourself to be distracted. This will help prevent you being in an accident, and also prevent you getting speeding fines and other tickets on the road for the disobedience of road rules. Fines and speeding tickets on your name can also raise your premium. Remember that you need to inform your insurance company of any tickets against your name; else you could risk having big troubles in your claim process.
