The limestone fireplace is one of the best choices when it comes to fireplaces; it is extremely durable and soft. As it is porous, it does require some care and maintenance. Also, like other fireplaces, with time, it has to catch some stains and marks of ashes which have to be cleaned up. It can catch stains of not only ashes and soot, but also wine or coffee; in all the cases it should be cleaned thoroughly so as to make it look spotless.

There are a few things that should be kept in mind when it is about cleaning and maintaining limestone fireplaces. So, let us discuss some of the most important tips for maintaining the limestone fireplace...

The Do’s...

There are a lot of things that you should do in order to clean and maintain the surface of the limestone fireplaces. So, here are the points that you should remember and follow them while cleaning it...

• It is always a good idea to apply two coats of sealant on the surface of the limestone fireplace and remember to apply the second coat only after the first one gets dried up. This will protect ...
... it from the scratches as well as stains. It will keep your fireplace protected as it is, for the years to come.
• Make sure you use cotton damped cloth and remember to rub it in the circular motion instead of rubbing to and fro or up and down harshly. It might take several minutes of circular scrubbing to get the stain out of it, but do not use harmful chemicals.
• As soon as you are done cleaning it with the cloth, it is advisable to rinse it with the soft water and then dry the stone straight away.
• As the surface is porous, the steam cleaning seems to be a good option to get rid of stains. However, make sure you dry out the surface as soon as the process gets over.

The don’ts

There are a lot of things that you should not do while taking care of your limestone fireplace. So, let us have a look at some of the don’ts...

• Make sure you do not use spray or wax. There is a chance it may leave patches on it or it can also darken the surface. Also, the kitchen or bathroom cleaners can cause harmful reaction to the limestone surface. So, instead of using these harmful materials, it is a good idea to use a damp cloth that is soaked in water and diluted liquid used for dishwashing. This method is suitable for all types of stains; be it ashes and soot or coffee and wine.
• If you do not want a brown scar on the surface, make sure you never place a cigarette near the fireplace.
• If you place a flower vase or glasses of wine, tea or coffee, it might create ring like marks onto the surface which are difficult to remove. So, it is advisable not to place such things on it.

Make sure you remember all these points and follow them once you get it installed at your home. There are a lot of places from where you can get limestone fireplace in UK, so make sure you choose the best store.
