Getting Some Information On Plaque
What is Plaque? It is a sticky almost colorless film that builds on our teeth. Plaque eats into the tooth enamel as the bacteria ferments the sugar in the mouth and converts it into acids. Plaque is mainly bacteria and thus causes a lot of decay to the teeth. This plaque is mainly built along the gum line and mineralizes to form tartar another bacteria which further damages the tooth.
Plaque can be removed by proper brushing and flossing. No matter how much professional cleaning the plaque will begin to form along the gum line the very next day. Hence one should continue to brush and floss on a daily basis to minimize the forming of plaque.
Professional of dental cleaning should be taken atleast biannually generally but in cases where the formation of plaque is rampant, then frequent cleaning by a dentist is a must. You also need to know how to clean and floss yourself as plaque is a repetitive process. Negligence on not removing the plaque can lead to bone loss and eventually the loss of the tooth. This plaque formation is the primary step to all other periodontal trouble.

A few things that the Houston Dentist asks us to follow are:
Brush Twice a day- The Houston Dentist states that the first step towards removing or eliminating the formation of plaque is the proper brushing of your teeth. The brush that is used and the motion of brushing the teeth also play a part in helping to eliminate the formation.
Flossing- The next step that the Houston Dentist suggests is flossing. Though brushing is the primary factor it does not reach all part of the teeth and gums thus flossing is also necessary. If the gums and teeth start to bleed, one need not worry as the healing begins on flossing.
Snacking- The Houston Dentist believes that a sugary snack is responsible for the formation of Plaque and one should not aid to this. If you must snack, then choose foods such as raw vegetables and cheese that will not assist in the formation of Plaque.
No Smoking- Instead of seeing your Houston Dentist repairing the damage done to your teeth owing to your habit, it is better to abstain from it as this not only causes damage to your teeth but also exposes you to the risk of cancer.
Dental Visits- Visit your Houston Dentist atleast twice a year. Your Houston Dentist can help you remove the plaque and tartar that your brushing and flossing have failed to do. Take all the notes and tips that you have to follow until your next visit.
