Should You Consider Recycled Office Furniture?
If you feel that it’s time to buy some new furniture for your office space, you may feel daunted by the heavy price tags that some with some new or remanufactured furniture. Nonetheless, a much more affordable option for you would be to purchase recycled office furniture. At the same time though, you could feel wary at the mere thought of purchasing anything that’s recycled. Should you consider recycled office furniture?
First of all, it’s important to understand what recycled office furniture exactly is. Recycled office furniture is old furniture that has been used repeatedly rather than being tossed out, but is being returned to the market. As you can imagine, it’s substantially cheaper than other furniture on the market, but it could either be in good or bad condition as well. Your recycled furniture could either be coming from someone who took very good care of their furniture, or for someone who did not. When buying recycled office furniture, make sure that you inspect it carefully.
When buying recycled office furniture, it will always be a safer bet if you buy furniture made out of reclaimed wood, ...
... which has served multiple purposes. People have used reclaimed wood to build tables, countertops, docks, decks, floors, shelves, cabinets, desks, chairs and many other things. Therefore, it’s been proven multiple times that reclaimed wood does serve a use, so it’s not like you’re buying poor quality material.
Reclaimed wood is also known to be very strong, so sometimes you could be buying recycled office furniture that’s equally as strong too. But at the same time, if the furniture is recycled, the looks of it likely aren’t going to be as sharp as if you were to purchase new or remanufactured furniture.
Can you legitimately trust purchasing recycled office furniture, however? When purchasing any type of recycled furniture for any reason, you largely won’t know much of the history behind it. As a result, you could very well be buying a low quality product, that could also have signs of being infected with pests. Signs of pest infestation in your furniture can include holes in the wood, the physical presence of bugs and insects, or if the furniture falls apart or is unstable when you touch or sit in it. If you find a piece of furniture that has signs of pest infestation, your safest bet is to not buy it.
All in all, recycled office furniture isn’t exactly your safest bet to pursue when looking for new furniture for your office. It’s largely a hit or miss business, as you could find a chair or a cubicle in great condition that will serve you well, but you could also buy something that is not in near as good condition. You should always carefully and perhaps test out the recycled office furniture before buying it. This way, you’ll be able to tell the condition of it beforehand, and you’ll save yourself a lot of trouble down the road.
