Unique Ways To Make Your Home Comfortable This Winter
There are so many easy ways for saving money on heating and cooling. If you know just a few simple household tricks and tips, you can save anywhere from a few cents here and there to hundreds of dollars a year on your heating and cooling bills. These ways of saving money on your heating and cooling bills are all cheap or free, and you can make these changes very easily with very little work involved. If you are able to use your heat and cooling systems wisely, you will also be able to use them for a much longer time!
One of the easiest and cheapest ways of saving money on your heating and cooling bills is to use something to prevent drafts from coming in through the cracks of your doors. This is called an 'Under Door Draft Guard' and it is simply two long snakelike fabric tubes with a bit of cloth in the middle that keeps it under your door, and moves with the door. These can be knitted or are sold especially for this purpose.
There are also similar, smaller ones made that you can put on drafty windows. If there is less outside air getting in, you will not have to overwork your heater or air conditioning unit. ...
... This will save you some money here or there and should help you feel warmer or cooler, especially close to the floor or around the windows. If you find that air is leaking, find the source of it and cover up any holes in your home.
Another way of saving money on heating and cooling is to manage where and when your heating or cooling unit is used. Remember, heat rises, so you are better off using your air conditioning on the top floor of your home rather than the bottom floor, if the temperature is tolerable on the lower floors. The same goes for heating. You should also keep in mind where you are most likely to need cooling and heating.
If you can program your heating or cooling system to only heat and cool certain rooms, you can benefit financially from that. Also, see about only heating or cooling your rooms when you are home. When you are not home, do not leave your heating or cooling units on. When you are home, try to cool off or warm up without jacking up the air conditioner or the heater. Extra blankets and cool showers should help you feel better. Most of the time, just the right clothing can make all of the difference.
There are many other easy, common sense ways of saving money on heating and cooling. Window shades will keep out sunlight, as well as make your home cooler in the summer time. Curtains can help with drafts if you are unable to seal up cracks around windows properly. Just remember, there are ways of saving money on heating and cooling without making yourself uncomfortable. You can do it with just a few smart ideas.
