General Motors is coming back to the midsize pickup segment and has confirmed the final specifications as well as the pricing scheme for the 2015 models of the GMC Canyon and the Chevrolet Colorado. The company specified the 2.4 liter engine’s output to be at 193 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque, while the V6 will produce 305 horsepower and a torque of 269 lb.-ft. They also revealed a standard six-speed automatic transmission, and an optional six-speed manual transmission for 2-wheel drive variants of vehicles running the 2.4 liter engines.

General Motors first debuted the 2015 Colorado at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The 2015 Canyon made its first appearance in the Detroit Auto Show. However, aside from the appearances and the January press release, the company made no mention at all on the final specs of the two vehicles until June 2014 when ordering guides for the two vehicles were leaked to the press.

Originally meant for those that would like purchase the 2015 Colorado and Canyon, these guides gave the general public a considerable amount of information about the future pickup vehicles. Coming from the ...
... company itself, the information proved to be very accurate and gave people a solid idea of what the base models of both pickups would be like.

Buyers can choose between General Motors’ proprietary 3.6 liter V6 and a 2.8-liter Duramax diesel engines. The V6 produces 305 horsepower and 269 lb.-ft. of torque. As of this month, GM has not yet released any information on the Duramax engine’s output, but announced that the engine will roll out in 2015 and will coincide with the release of the 2016 models of the Canyon and Colorado.

The company also specified further on the pickups’ towing capabilities and they are impressive. When equipped with the V6 engine, both the Canyon and the Colorado will be able to pull a total weight of 7,000 pounds. If a buyer decides to stick with the base 4-cylinder engine, the vehicle’s towing capacity is reduced to 50% which is around 3,500 pounds. That is still a lot of power and remarkably higher than the statistics revealed by the competition.

A six-speed automatic transmission will indeed be the standard configuration on all models including the V6-equipped variant of the vehicles. If the buyer wants a pickup with a manual transmission, they will have to contend with purchasing one of the two 2-wheel drive models for the 2015 Canyon and Colorado.

Furthermore, General Motors released last month the pricing schemes for both the Canyon and Colorado. The Colorado’s base models with the 2.4-liter engine and the extended cabs will start at $20,100. Its two 2WD models, the LT Crew Cab and the Z70 Crew Cab, will be available at $27,090 and $34,095 respectively. On the other hand, the Canyon’s base models will start at $20,995 while prices for its Canyon SLE Extended Cab 2WD variant start at $26,595. There are also no price estimates for the variants running on the 2.8-liter Duramax diesel engine.
