Cloanto Releases C64 Forever Express Edition - Free C64 Emulator Suite With 100 Games

September 18, 2009 - Cloanto, developers of Commodore/Amiga software since the 1980s, and already publishers of Amiga Forever, launched this week C64 Forever Express Edition, a free version of its revolutionary C64 emulator, gaming and preservation package.
C64 Forever embodies an intuitive player interface, backed by a built-in database containing more than 5,000 C64 game entries, and advanced support for the new RP9 format, dubbed the "MP3 of retrogaming".

C64 Forever expands Cloanto's RetroPlatform family, aiming to set new standard in ease of use, emulation power and access to contents. The new Express Edition, which was released as version 2009.0.5.0 and just earned Microsoft's "Compatible with Windows 7" logo, is positioned to become the Commodore 64 emulator of choice for novice and expert Windows users alike. Cloanto is also in contact with Apple and working on iPhone versions of both Amiga Forever and C64 Forever, to be released as soon as Apple's policies open the doors to software aiming to recreate an original retrocomputing experience.
When both Amiga Forever and C64 Forever are installed, the players share data and software modules with each other, uniformly playing back RP9 games of both 8-bit and 32-bit platforms. The same familiar user interface and settings are also applied to saved states, disk write undo, dual-monitor setups and other advanced functionality. "The way it brings back memories is amazing, and it feels as if Commodore and Amiga were united again," said Michael C. Battilana of Cloanto.
The C64 emulator suite includes more than 100 C64 games, some of the finest demoscene productions, and other bits and pieces of history. Adding content is as easy as a drag-and-drop. The RP9 Manager feature further makes it possible to import thousands of games at once from existing C64 CDs, DVDs or internet downloads, while the built-in search functionality makes it easy to find more games on C64 preservation sites.
