Pain is an unwanted feeling caused either by illness, injury, emotional disorder, mistakes, etc. This feeling of discomfort affects both humans and animals making them unable to carry out their normal duties. In order to get rid of these pains, humans go to clinics or hospitals for checkup while animals are taken to veterinary clinics for the same purpose. At the clinic, the doctor would diagnose and confirm the kind of pain the patient is suffering from which could mainly be acute or chronic.

Acute pains are sharp pains which are caused mainly by accidents or surgery. It comes suddenly, persist for a short while and goes if treated. The pains can also be caused by a disease, an injury, or inflammation. Chronic pains on the other hand are caused mainly by diseases and it persists for a longer time.

Pain management is the process by which doctors diagnose the actual cause of a pain and administers the appropriate medications to relieve the patient of the pains. Non-steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs: NSAIDs are non-inflammatory drugs used mostly in the treatment of back pains and inflammatory issues such as bursitis, tendonitis, and arthritis.

Apart from the aforementioned medications popularly used to relieve pains, here are two popular non-drugs methods that can be used.

Ice treatment: Acute injuries to the ankle such as ankle sprain can be relieved with the help of icepacks. If these icepacks are applied continuously to the injury for 48 hours, the swelling, and pain felt around that area would be effectively reduced. Ice treatment can also be used to continuously relieve pain to the joints if the healing process continues to delay.

Acupuncture: In this treatment, needles are inserted into specific points in the body in order to cause it to release pain relieving substances like endorphins and others. This method is mostly used to relieve post-operative pains, carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow, low back pain, sciatica, and arthritis.
