When you work for a company, the owners must carry workers compensation insurance in case you were to fall or become injured while working there. This compensation is in place to cover your medical expenses, pay for rehabilitation, and provide you with an income while you are out of work due to these injuries.

So what is federal workers compensation and how is it different from workers compensation? The only real difference between the two is that the federal workers compensation is only available to federal employees. It does include postal workers who may become injured while at work or if they become sick while they are carrying out their duties delivering the mail.

The workers compensation package is a result of the Federal Employee Compensation Act, or FECA. It is currently providing coverage for more than 3 million government employees. The compensation package is available to replace a government employee’s wages while they are injured or ill due to their work environment. Medical bills are covered as well as rehabilitation efforts.

When a federal employee submits a disability claim, one of the ...
... conditions of federal workers compensation is that the claim must be handled in a timely manner. Traumatic injuries should be decided within 45 days from the time the district office receives the claim. As the claims become more involved, the time frame for resolution can run from 90 days to 10 months.

If a government employee cannot work because of an injury on the job, FECA makes sure that the employee receives reimbursement of his pay within 2 weeks of submitting the claim. The medical bills of the government employee also must be taken care of promptly as well. Payment for the medical bills must be paid within 28 days of the claim.

In addition to receiving compensation for lost wages and coverage for medical bills that have been incurred due to injuries on the job, the government employee has a full year in which he or she can get their job back. If the employee cannot return to his job the proper medical care or rehabilitation will be made available to him so that he can return to his job as soon as he has fully recovered. There is also coverage in place in case it is determined that the employee has become permanently disabled.

It doesn’t matter whether you work for an independent company or the government; every person who is employed in the United States is covered for medical expenses and loss of wages if they become injured while on the job. This type of insurance is important because you should not have to suffer physically or financially because of something that happened through no fault of your own.

With federal workers compensation in place you have the peace of mind knowing that if you did happen to become injured while on the job your medical expenses would be covered and you would not have to suffer any loss of income.
