If you are searching for the meaning of the word Goth, I am sure you might learn that they were a group of East Germanic tribes and that they moved gradually from one land to the other and all that historical information. However, we are not here to talk about them, we are talking about Goth that evolved in the late 1970s and made an attempt to define their own subculture and music and to spread it out to people across the world.

So, you want to know a little about how it began? Well, basically there was no gothic rock until 1980s, but still few bands called themselves gothic in the late 1970s. The gothic rock scene followed their own bands and had a distinctive style of music which was very different from the punk and rock bands then. Gothic bands like Bauhaus, Banshees and Siouxsie normally try to create sorrowful and epic sounds along with guitar and synthesizer that were of the main sounds of post-punk movements. Batcave club became one of the most popular venues for goth bands and goth fans all over the world.

In the 20th century, when goth music was slowly spreading across many parts of the world, gothic ...
... rock entered the mainstream with movies and TV programs being made based on gothic subculture.
Hollywood soon came out with the new world of dark and romantic stories that became box-office hits. However, it was Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow in the year 1999 that gave an impetus to stories that were full of darkness and sorrow, very much alike gothic music.

The influences of dark romance taken from gothic scene can also been seen in movies like Edward Scissorhands and Batman. Gothic music and goth scene started becoming more popular as more and more horror films and television programs were being produced and distributed across the United States of America and other parts of the world. Television series like The Addams Family and The Munsters were camp comedies that were influenced by the goth scene.

Many goth fans claim that Bauhaus first single Bela Lugosi’s Dead was the starting point of the goth subculture which was later revolutionize by gothic styles and fashion that evolved. With the change of time more movies and TV programs were heavily influenced by goth scene and the connection between goth and horror became a cliché.
