Difference Between Men & Women Lacrosse
Lacrosse is one of the fastest growing sports in America. Perhaps it is because everyone can play with rules being modifiable according to gender to enhance the game and provide better competition. As such, there is development of brands like Warrior lacrosse offering everything from women’s lacrosse sticks to men’s shoulder pads and arm protection. Sports equipment companies are certainly cashing in on this sport growing popularity.
A little history…
Lacrosse has become a very popular summer sport but where did it all start? Interestingly, right here in America. Lacrosse originated with North American Indians, specifically in what is now upper New York and lower Ontario. They called it tewaraathon. The French came over and saw the game. Their observation of the stick that carried the ball suggested a resemblance to a bishop’s crozier known as lacrosse in French, hence the name.
Europeans in Canada soon started playing the game, then the English and eventually the Americans in Eastern schools took it up. It spread all over to Ireland, South Africa and Australia. It was very popular in America in ...
... the 1920s when it reached Baltimore such that it became the main center for lacrosse in the US. It even became an Olympic sport for a while but could not attract sufficient international interest to remain one.
Lacrosse would eventually lose popularity to other sports like baseball, football and basketball over the years but still enjoyed play at lower competitive levels.
The Return
Lacrosse remained concentrated in the East for a time but has in recent times spread to other parts of the country. Men’s lacrosse is in about 32 states now although most national players come from New York or Maryland. The same is true of women’s lacrosse, with only a few girls coming from other states. However, with the increased interest, especially at high school level, lacrosse may once again bea nation-wide sport and hopefully even go international.
One size fits all?
Part of the appeal for lacrosse is its ability to adapt to anyone. There are no specific physical attributes needed and it is quite adaptable to the different genders to maximize their inherent strengths and abilities enabling them to play their best game. This is not common for every game.
Women’s lacrosse is very different from men’s lacrosse. There are more players on the field, no body contact, no rough play, no overtimes for tie-breakers, more boundaries on the field than for men and a goal circle violation that does not apply to men. Women’s Lacrosse Sticks are also very different in their design. They have different pocket lengths as well as handle lengths in addition to differences in materials when compared to the men’s sticks. You can visit various sports equipment providers like Warrior Lacrosse and view the suitable, standard and quality equipment that you can purchase for yourself or your team from sticks and balls, to pads and heads.
Your rights
Purchasing any sports equipment is quite the financial venture and it is important to ensure that you are getting your money’s worth with every single piece. This is especially important for safety wear where a defect in the product could cause injury or fail to protect your players from injury as intended. It is therefore critical that you inspect your equipment thoroughly upon purchase.
In the unfortunate event of an injury due to a defective product, then you will need to retain an attorney versed in personal injury and product liability to help you get fair compensation. If the defect is yet to cause an injury, you will need to get a refund or return the product, which can get complicated in which case you can consult a consumer law attorney in your area.
