Android 4.4 KitKat has already introduced major changes in the mobile OS market with its simplified design and user-friendly interface nevertheless users are expecting more from Google, this year as well. No matter what Google names it - Lollipop or the version number 5.0, Android L has already created a tough competition for Apple’s iOS 8 in the mobile device market. In discussions for its updated UI -Material Design and an array of new features, the Android L is expected to be released in Q4 of 2014. Meanwhile, the company has made the mobile OS available to developers on 26 June 2014, allowing them to test and build apps, before the platform officially released for the end users.

If rumors are to be believed, the next version of Android is expected to be a combination of all the latest features and technology adopted by major IT giants. In this article, you will read about 5 major features that can put Android L ahead of Apple’s iOS 8.

The all new Android Interface - Material Design

Material Design is Google’s new interface guideline that has been beautifully designed with shades of blues, muted ...
... greens, and red, however, white still holds the dominant appearance. Coming down to the OS’s functionality and apps integration, the material design is clearly seen as a blend of Microsoft and Metro UI used in Windows 8.

Putting the hard transitions and striking effects on a stop, the new Android UI has incorporated animation technique to present some important sections. Avoiding the boring and bulky flat design, the company has developed this platform in layered flatness that offers a simplified yet easy-to-understand atmosphere. Creating a comfortable reading environment by offering subtle shadows on the edges, the latest Android OS will let you feel a little depth on the screen without cluttering it

The updated UI is found to be better when compared to Apple’s iOS8 as it still continues to run on a flat design and adorns the display with the old transparent glass effect.

Delivers more powerful performance

Apple introduced the new Metal graphics API and the Swift programming language allows developers to design games and apps that run/operate considerably faster than its previous versions. Google’s Android L sweeps the battle with an all new runtime and the Android Extension Pack (AEP) in partnership with Nvidia. The new extension pack adds numerous features to the platform for bridging the gap between mobile graphics and DirectX 11 on computers.

Adds more life to your device with its power saving feature

Google has been criticized for not creating a basic battery saving mode for Androids, but the users will be amazed by the changed adopted by the company- named Project Volta. Changing the entire way in which Android devices manage their battery life, the feature will allow the user to disable background data, and tweak settings to save power. Additionally, the ‘Battery Historian’ feature is also incorporated in the platform to avoid power draining apps and services. Claiming an add-on battery life of up to 90 minutes in most of the device, the all new Android L beats iOS 8, which provides a support for up to 60 minutes.

Actionable notifications with added support

iOS 8 added some buttons and quick reply functionalities to actionable notifications for making the process seamless and rapid however, on the other hand Android L does that and more. Adopting the look of embracing cards, the newly developed OS by Google lets you access notification with a status bar, displaying the most important ones at the top. Offering you the option to slide down the high-priority notification from the top of the screen, the OS lets you respond them with action buttons or simply swipe it away. Moreover, Android L will also let you launch the app by tapping on the stack of notification cards, even while viewing them on the lock screen.

Multi-tasks with ease and comfort

The multi-tasking interface in iOS 8 added contact shortcuts to the app switcher, but the Google’s new updated OS has added the entire Internet to its app switcher. The interface will change the entire way of presenting web content and apps by listing items together in the multitasking stack. In Android L, the recent app list will carry a Material Design-style stack nicely paired up with Chrome tabs that lets you jump back and forth between apps. Offering you the deep linking support to apps in web searches, the new mobile OS by Google will let you do things in a faster yet efficient manner.

Both the OSes are trying their capabilities to transform in a user-friendly interface that allows them to choose the one with more features and updated technology. Since iOS 8 has already been made available to developers in June 2014, therefore Google’s Android L has more chances to be tested on difficult parameters.
