Townsville is one of the magnificent jewels in Australia. With its magnificent Strand foreshore and towering Castle Hill, this is the place in Tropical North Queensland to have your photos taken. There are some outstanding parks and gardens where you can have your wedding photos taken and we will look and discuss some of those great locations in this article.

Each of the locations mentioned in this article are extremely popular and you would be advised to check if anyone has booked the locations to hold their actual wedding there. If this has occurred, you may not be able to take your wedding photos in this location.

1. Anzac Park

Anzac Park is one of the most historically significant gardens in Townsville and is also one of the most popular locations. The park has three significant features which are the Rotunda, the Parklands and also the Centenary Fountain.

Anzac Park is located towards the south end of the strand next to the local marina. Personally we had our wedding photos taken here and there were great shots taken with the marina in the background.

2. The Strand

The Strand ...
... is another fantastic location for photos especially if you are looking for an ocean theme for your wedding photos. There are over 30 great locations for you to have your photos taken including the Rock Pool Headland, the Landsborough Street Headland, Stuart Street Headland, Burke Street Headland, Gregory Street Headland, the Toobruk Pool as well as in the D-Park in the middle of the Strand.

This garden, just like Anzac Park is extremely popular, so you will need to be patient if there are other wedding parties in the area.

3. Queens Garden

Since the redevelopment of 'The Strand', Queens Gardens located in the suburb of North Ward has become one of those forgotten jems of the wedding photo scene. There is a huge number of great locations for photos which include the Rose garden, Herb garden, Raintree lawn (Kennedy St), Play lawn, Palm lawn, Lipstick lawn, Rainforest lawn and Frangipani lawn.

4. The Palmetum

The Palmetum is located on the fringe of the suburb of Annandale. This beautiful park was created to show the diversified environmental types that surround the city of Townsville. There are many locations where you could take photos including Tokuyama gardens (Summerhouse), Harold E Moore Crescent, Lagoon area or Savannah zone, Xerophytic zone, Rainforest (The Island area), Rainforest (Picnic area), Carl Von Martius Way.

Many couples actually have chosen to have their wedding in the park as well as their wedding photos. If you are looking to do this simply contact the Townsville City Council.

4. Anderson Park

Anderson Park is located in the suburb of Mundingburra and is only a short 8 minute drive from the heart of the city. The suburb has a number of parish churches nearby, so if you are getting married in this location, this is a great park for photos.

The park has recently been upgraded which includes the rejuvenation of a second lagoon in the heart of the gardens. Some of the great locations to have you photos taken include the Ficus lawn, Lotus ponds, Palm lawn or Pandanus area, Cape York area, Rockery, Tropical conifers, Orchard, Rainforest area.

5. Riverway

The Riverway precinct is a magnificent park that is located on Ross River in Kirwan. The park has some of the greatest attractions for weddings including two huge swimming lagoons, the Riverway Arts Centre, Pinnacles Gallery, the Riverwalk and acres of parklands.

You will never be short of a unique location and photos for your wedding photo shoot. This is the newest park development in Townsville and this unique parklands has won many awards both on a local and national level.
I strongly recommend this location for your wedding photo shoot.

6. Dan Gleeson Memorial Gardens

This memorial gardens was named after former mayor Dan Gleeson and is aptly located in the heart of the former Thuringowa City. This park became part of Townsville when it merged in 2007. The gardens are situated on Thuringowa Drive in Kirwan.

The park has a number of beautiful locations where wedding photos could be taken, but most newly married couples will opt for photos near the fountain, central rotunda and front rotunda.
