Why changes with some hard disk drives have made data recovery Difficult

Hard disk manufacturers have designed drives that are able to handle larger capacities, as companies are needing more and more data storage. It is not just the sheer volume of data that makes an expert’s job difficult, trying to recover large volumes of data within a short amount of time. But this is not the only reason why a data recovery specialist can have trouble with restoring hard drives.

The newer hard drive use modern technology and spin faster than traditional model hard drives. Some new hard drives are helium-filled. They use less dense air and head drive heads fly more freely with little resistance. However this is not the only difference with these types of drives. They can also allow driver platters to be closer together and manufacturers can put more platters into their drives. Not every hard drive is using more platters. One company prefers to use shingled magnetic recording technology and data is stored in bits that overlap instead of linear patterns.

Opening helium-filled drives may damage the drive heads because it may cause them trying to stop functioning properly. They may crash more frequently and it can make data recovery more challenging. This is why experts who perform data recovery must study the new technology processes as they come along.

Did you know that new encryption techniques may require experts who also have training in data storage? Did you know that an expert really needs to have specialised knowledge in both encryption and knowledge in data storage? This is because the two areas may overlap each other. These days, companies need encryption to protect their sensitive data. Many companies may feel safe because their data requires an encryption key. There is also software that encrypts files. While this does not mean that your encrypted data is 100 percent safe, it does mean companies have a better chance of keeping their data safe.

Why companies may not want to do their own data Recovery

The software you can buy to perform your own data recovery is compatible to the data recovery software that professional data recovery companies have. Does an individual have enough knowledge to do their own data recovery? A hard drive may have physical damage that a off-the-shelf software program may not be able to fix. But can you tell the difference?

Did you know that a external hard drive data recovery specialist may not be able to retrieve data on hard drives that have already been assessed and those attempts failed? Roughly 10 percent of the time, data recovery fails for companies that have already tried to recover data before contacting a professional company.
Should companies consider using auto tiering instead of Raid systems or a USB flash drive? Some data storage options may not work for your company, based on the amount of storage that needs to be preserved. Isn’t it nice to know that if your company loses data accidentally, a data recovery company can recover lost data? If you have lost data while trying to comply with the new EU data protection regulations, we can help recover sensitive company data.
