Hinduism encloses a number of regional variation, sects, subsets, with differing beliefs. Hindus believe that life and death are part of the samsara or rebirth. To be free from desire is the ultimate goal for many Hindus, thereby attaining moksha, which is considered as a transcendent state of salvation. According to Hindu rituals when a person is approaching death, the family members along with a priest should be with the person. All present should chant mantras. The body is transferred to a grass mat on the floor when death seems imminent. The Holy water of the Ganges should be placed on the person’s mouth. If these rituals cannot be followed before death then they should be performed immediately after death.
Preparation for the funeral

After the funeral, the eldest son goes back to the cremation and collects the ashes in an urn. The remains are then immersed in a river. The rites last for eleven days after which the spirit is said to join the ancestors. Hence are worshipped in the sraddha ceremony
