Possible Reasons For Failure Of Dental Implants
When you are faced with issues regarding your teeth, such as loss or damage, you have several options available to you. The thing you will have to keep in the forefront of your mind throughout this selection is how successful each choice is. With this in mind, the best option available for you is dental implants. They currently have a 96% success rate, making the failure rate 3% or less.
While the failure rate of dental implants is quite low, there are a variety of reasons why they could possibly fail. Here are some of the more common causes:
1. Infection
If you don't properly clean and care for your implants, bacteria can grow in between the teeth and the gum, causing an infection. The infection can cause the tooth to loosen and the bone to be unable to adhere to the implant.
2. Implants That Are Loose
This is something you would notice immediately after having the implants put in because this is an error on the part of the dentist. If the tooth is not implanted properly and securely, it will be loose, which allows the infection previously discussed to grow.
3. Jawbone Analysis
Prior ...
... to the implants being surgically placed, the dentist must closely analyze the jawbone to ensure there are no problems during surgery or throughout the healing process. For instance, a thin jawbone will be detected beforehand, allowing measures to be taken by the dentist to strengthen the jawbone for the surgery.
4. Implant Placement
Another error that could cause dental implants to fail is their improper placement. They cannot be placed too close to other teeth or in a place that would have a negative effect on blood vessels or nerves. Improper placement can be avoided by taking proper images of the jawbones ahead of time, such as X-rays.
5. Incomplete Medical History From Patient
You need to inform your dentist of any prior dental work you've had done; without this knowledge, the dentist could run into problems that could have been prevented. For instance, if you've had dental implants before, you should make your dentist aware of this.
6. Implant Quality
You may be trying to save some money by choosing a cheaper quality implant, but this can have negative effects in the long run. The implants of cheaper quality have a tendency to fail because they deteriorate quickly and can even break. Investing in good quality dental implants will be beneficial to you in the long term.
Ron Barbanell began performing dental implants in 1979 after a year-long program offered at the University of Southern California. I have successfully placed thousands of implants since then. http://adhp.com/dental-implants
