Know About Metal Materials
If you look around for a while, you will find that you are surrounded by some or the other metal. From industrial use to household chores, and from jewelries to the most mundane job, we use metals. Though as layman we take it for granted, but there are companies dedicated to research and development of these metals so that these metals can be used in more different ways. Here we will discuss mainly three varieties: high purity gallium, aluminum master alloy and magnesium master alloy. Anyone with a little experience of the industry will know the utility of these metals.
All these metal forms have their own applications in different industries due to their specific characteristics. The most widespread use of high purity gallium is seen in semiconductor applications. Due to its this particular quality, about 98% of the applications employ this metal for its semiconductor. Similarly, aluminum master alloy is that material which is added to the aluminum in order to adjust the composition. This is why it is also called hardener or modifier. When manufacturers work with molten metals, they often face certain problems which hinder their productivity. Master alloy helps them solve any such problem that concerns alloying. Also, master alloy is used to stop wastage of alloying metal in melt. It becomes all the more indispensible where metals are expensive as well and have a higher degree of affinity for oxygen and vapor pressure. And the story certainly does not end here. When it comes to industry usage, it serves quite a few purposes. As hardener, it changes the metal alloys’ composition. As modifiers, it alters the micro-structural characteristics of a metal which enhances its strength, ductility, and toughness. It is works as grain refiner by adding titanium and sometimes boron too. By this, mechanical strength of the casting is improved consistently, and so is the soundness.
Like aluminum, magnesium is also strong and at the same time, light. This is why the magnesium master alloy is used in the manufacturing of those applications that require high volume. Truck spare parts and automotive are the best examples of using this alloy. Elements like Yttrium, Zirconium, Nickel, Scandium etc are used for preparing the master alloy.
All the three materials are developed by chemical companies. Though laymen are not aware, but for whom it matters should know that shape or form in which these metals are found play role in its quality and functions. And each shape or form depends upon the elements mixed in the metals to make the alloys. For example, Aluminum with Erbium, Yttrium, Manganese and Zirconium are found in cylindrical and round pie shape while most of the magnesium based master alloys are found in powder form.
There are thousands of things around us that we use all through a day. Each of them has a story of its manufacturing. And it is always a knowledgeable experience if we get to know about them.
