Sciatica, which is scientifically known as “Radiculopathy”, is classified into different sections based on the cause of Sciatica. Primarily, the pain in lower back and shooting pain in thighs and legs are the main identifiers of Sciatica. In fact, shooting pain in the legs is known as Sciatica pain. Sciatica may be caused by an inflammation or infection, or worse, a tumor that needs medical attention. Thus, it is highly necessary for you to seek for an exact diagnosis as to what really causes the pain, so you can proceed on performing the appropriate sciatica exercise routines for your case.

Cause of Sciatica Pain
The sciatic nerve is commonly injured by fractures of the pelvis, gunshot wounds, or other trauma to the buttocks or thigh. . There may be numbness in the area, weakness in the leg and diminution of the reflexes. Prolonged sitting or lying with pressure on the buttocks may also injure it. Systemic diseases, such as diabetes, can typically damage many different nerves, including the sciatic nerve. The nerve may also be harmed by pressure from masses such as a tumor or abscess, or by bleeding in the ...
... pelvis. Pain often increases on exertion or bending forward Pain may be triggered by coughing or straining and can be so severe that the lower back becomes locked in sideways bending position (scoliosis) caused by a strong contraction.

Fortunately, most cases of sciatica are not serious and usually resolve within six weeks. The sciatic nerve branches off nerve roots at the lower end of the spinal cord as two branches run from the lower back through the each side of the pelvis, buttocks, back of leg to the foot.

Sciatica treatment
Exercise as a treatment is better than bed rest. Without regular movement, your back muscles tend to weaken leading to further strain and injury. Proper exercise will keep your spine and discs healthy and flexible lessening the strain on the sciatic nerve.

Sciatica exercises must be done regularly, yet gently, in order to build flexibility and strength. Aside from strengthening the core, abdominal and back muscles, you must also concentrate on the muscles directly linked to your sciatic nerve.

Walking is known to be an easy yet excellent form of lower back exercise, A great contributor to the overall Sciatica treatment. Regular exercise keeps your joints, muscles, and bones in top shape and prevents injury when you suddenly decide to do strenuous activities

Weak abdominal muscles mean that your back muscles have to over-compensate when you are moving your upper body. Overworked muscles can become tight and tensed, which may lead to nerve compression in the long term.
