Nowadays mechanical Engineers use software tools to increase the quality of design, productivity and to create a database for manufacturing processes. Involvement of software’s in mechanical line is a revolutionary turn for the designers, engineers and inventors. Software gives a digital interface to engineers with power and precision. Analyzing and visualization of mechanical products or object have become easier with the use of these software tools. These software’s are easy and quick to learn, thus enhances the designing skills of an engineer. Work could be performed easily on it and effective output the form, electronic files or digital data can be obtained.
One of such tools is Cad Software (computer aided design) which uses computer technology and widely used in applications like automotive industry, shipbuilding area, aerospace industries, architectural design and many more. The simulation of the programs in this software gives an idea, how the design will work in the real world. It helps us to relate and visualize concepts with photorealistic clarification or perception. This software is used to design cars, ...
... ships, bicycle, and prosthetics and also used to produce computer animation in order to provide animation effects in the movies, cartoons, advertising and other technical manuals and much more. Now there is no need to learn manual drafting techniques like the use of protractors, compasses, etc. for drawing or designing. The use of computer system eases the creation, modification, and optimization of designs. This software packages range from 2d modeling (vector-based graphics) to 3d Modeling of solid surfaces.
3d Cad Software let you to rotate objects in three dimensions; objects can be given an elevation by moving them in Z direction using ‘move’ command. With the combination of the ‘move’ and ‘properties’ commands we can create simple three dimensional drawings. The concept was to have a curve controlled modeling that emphasis the modeling of the movement of three dimensional objects instead of the traditional modeling of the static shape.
3d drawings make use of wireframe to create final engineering drawing views; it is an extension to 2d drafting. The basic three dimensional geometric structures are prisms, cylinders, spheres and more having solid volumes added or subtracted from them, assembling real world objects. 3d solids set a limit to their motion and do not include tools to easily allow motion of the components.
There are two types of solid modeling:
• 3d parametric solid modeling- In this modeling, modifications can be made by changing how the original parts were created.
• Explicit Modeling or direct 3d modelers- In this modeling, there is a no need of original sketch, one could edit or modify the geometry without the need of the original drawing.
Free Form surface modeling designs, products which interface with machines and fit the human form and visual requirements. Three popular ways to represent models are: polygonal, curve and digital modeling.
In the present days, this CAD system exists for all the major platforms for instance- windows, Linux, UNIX, MAC OS so anyone can run it in any platform comfortably. For more details one can consider to visit- http://edgeplm.com.au/
