Batik Printing – One & Only Printing Practiced Universally

Nothing makes a woman looks more beautiful than a traditional dress does. India is a hub where traditionalism takes place. Sarees and Salwar Kameez play an active role in India where every woman’s wardrobe is filled with these garbs.

Batik Printed fabrics are traditional yet trendy designs and exhibits elegant look to the wearer.

The Speciality of Batik Printing is, this is the only technique that is practiced by the whole world.

“Batik” a “Javanese Word” means “Wax writing”, is a preparation or solution used to polish on fabrics. Using different painstaking techniques, weavers executed these royal Batik printed fabrics like sarees, Salwar Kameez, kerchiefs, napkins, curtains etc.

Till today, there is no evidence about the origin of Batik Prints. Some says they are in use during ancient times of Egypt and some says this beauty is crafted in India. However, there also a mass that, Batik printing started in Indonesia, Sumeria.

Some Interesting facts about Batik Printing are,

They represent gods Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva by using three traditional colours i.e., indigo, dark brown and white.

Its popularity well-increased after it was adopted as a subject in Shantiniketan University.

It is the only major and primary revenue generator of Malaysia. Airlines crew of this country wears only Batik Uniforms.

It is known as Java in Indonesia because of its extraordinary motifs and designs.

Weaving of these Batik Prints majorly involves in three hard core processes i.e., Batik with waxing, Batik without waxing and Batik silk.

Originally, weavers undergoes the first step i.e., Batik with waxing, because it produces durable, sheen and quality fabrics.

Again there are two different processes to apply wax on a cloth, one is splash method and the other is hand-painted method. Where in splash, wax is poured on the cloth and for the other, they use pen for wax coating.

Firstly, weavers prepare the cloth by starching it. By stretching it on a frame, they will draw designs using some wax applications.

Here, to retain its original colour, they use a special technique called resist-dyeing where they cover some parts of cloth by wax. Then they dye the cloth and boil it to remove fax.

Main themes of Batik printing involves everyday lives, incorporating patterns and motifs like flowers, geometrical shapes, animals, humans, folklore and nature etc.

To prevent it from overheating, a lot of attention is required while using wax.

Batik Printed Sarees and Batik Printed Salwar Kameez are the major attractions of today’s fashion.

Batik Print Salwar Suits with stylish patterns are ideal wears. Batik Sarees with white patch works are the professional and classical wears. Sarees with floral and block printing techniques are apt for working women.

By the mixer of god grace and skills, they are still maintaining the primary place in the wardrobes of women.
