Ahmedabad Science City Road – A Typical Example Of The Changing Face Of The City

Probably one of the most upcoming areas of Ahmedabad city is the Science City area. What was an agriculture land and an area for grazing has been transformed within a span of a few years to an amazing stretch of land that is resplendent with all amenities that one could wish for. Located on the other side of Thaltej, one of the most expensive real estate areas of the city, Science City area is close to the main city without the disadvantages of the maddening hustle bustle.
Where is it located?
One can find distance updates of the Science City in kilometres all over the city, even from distances as far off as Sabarmati. Of course these plaques have been put up to guide people visiting the entertainment centre but works as good guide for others wishing to go there too. In fact no other spot is highlighted more in distance plaques. So as one follows the road signs in neon red, one finds himself approaching the Sola Bridge via the Thaltej part of S G Highway. ... after the Sola Bridge, and before the Gujarat High Court, another prominent landmark, there is a deviation to the left. It is a circular over-bridge that leads off the S G Highway and leads to the Science City Road. Welcome to the Science City Road - a treat for city dwellers!
What do we find there?
Science City Road, as the name signifies is the location of Gujarat Science City, a perfect zone for all minds, scientific and otherwise. Here we find plenty in terms of entertainment for all age groups, ranging from games, visual treats and three dimensional cinema theatres. Children simply love to go to Science City and many schools arrange for trips as a part of Science excursion. The area has been developed well by Gujarat Government and it is worth spending a day here with the family. The Science City Road stretches over a large area of land connecting the S G Highway to S P Ring Road. As we enter we notice a distinct change in the horizon. In fact it wouldn’t be wrong to say that presently this road is one of the best developed roads of the city. It is wide and well built and cleanliness is the essence. One finds low rises on either side, well planned and symmetrically lined. The entire area is flat and well maintained with greenery all around.
Initially the area was home to only Bungalow schemes with beautiful villas sprawled over large areas. Soon low rise apartment buildings came up in societies that have been very well maintained. Now we also find high rises of famous builders. Greet the eyes very frequently with offices and shops on both sides of the road. About 50% of the commercial area is already taken and some are still under construction. These areas are very well planned and visible from the road. Among the prominent commercial schemes is the one being built by Shahajanand builders’ capital one scheme.
Weekend bungalow schemes have become very popular in Ahmedabad and surrounding areas now. There are quite a few good projects that have come up close to the Science City Road. Some of them are in Rancharada, Thol, Shilaj and Bhadaj areas.
The upcoming areas of Godrej Garden City and Adani Township are also not too far from here. The Vaishnodevi Circle which is developing viciously is also close by so one can expect plenty in terms of development.
Amenities and facilities found here
Just a few years ago one would have to come to the main hub to avail of even a grocery store’s supplies. Today this area is completely self sufficient with schools, markets, restaurants, temples and hospitals. The HCG hospital and CIMs hospital are located in this area and have earned the reputation of being among the best in city health care facilities. Of course the Gujarat High Court is here too and lends a beautiful aura to the place with its majestic appearance. There are quite a few good schools here and branches of the main schools too. Playgroups have mushroomed all over and school buses to far flung schools also ply in this area. As traffic is negligible, kids do not mind the daily travel. The organised traffic is also very beneficial to office goers and one is still to face a traffic jam here. Beautiful clean and green roads make driving smooth and stress free.
There is a beautiful Swami Narayan temple here that attracts not only the locals but also the city dwellers because of the serene and clean ambience. The Hare Krishna Mandir is being built over a large area of land and is promised to be as magnificent as Akshardham Temple once it is complete.
Cinema Theatres are already here and more are coming up soon. The big ‘M’ greets the eye from far and hungry kids and parents flock for a bite of McDonald’s that is spacious and offers Drive-thru facility too for those who cannot stop for long. The area has a plethora of restaurants and one can find Punjabi, Chinese, Gujarati and Rajasthani food along with Dosa Centres and street food.
Shopping malls are yet to come up but there are plenty of shops and one can find all kinds of stores here right from grocery to boutiques. The shopping complexes are spacious and very clean.
Since area is available in plenty, one can find showrooms in this area. The main showrooms are of cars and motor bikes.
Branches of all prominent banks are available here along with ATM counters at prominent junctions.
Public transport is available too although buses are far and few between. One can find auto rickshaws everywhere before dark and taxi services are available too. Having your own transport helps during wee hours or after dark as public transport gets very sparse then.
Connectivity of this road is excellent as it is very close to S G Highway and S P Ring Road. Just a few kilometres from Thaltej, a posh city area, Science City Road is easily accessible. Since the traffic here is very less, one can reach this place in no time at all.
The Science City Road of Ahmedabad is an area to look out for in the near future. Since all amenities are already available here one need not go far from home. In terms of facilities that are required in daily life, we find everything here. The real estate scenario looks very positive here as one finds all that is required for day to day life plus more.
