As we all know, Uppada Sarees have their origin in a small village Uppada. It is located in East Godavari, India. The weavers use old age traditional Jamdani techniques to model these sarees.
Traditional Jamdani is a creative style of Bengal weaving technique. Later, in the year 1988, weavers of Uppada used this style of weavings and produced Uppada handlooms.
The interesting point is, the weavers are into this profession traditionally. ...
... Without any training, they have acquired the skill of weaving hereditarily from their ancestors.
The weaving of these Uppada sarees is such a difficult and painstaking work that is carried out by the weavers.
The basic fabrics of these sarees are Pure Silk, Pure Cotton, Pattu, and Combination of silk-cotton. In Jamdani, they use two types of techniques, one is drawing Pattern designs on the paper and the other is using jala.
Here, in first technique, weaver either uses frames or pit looms. The looms which are fixed in a frame and peddle of the loom will be at floor level. The weaver weaves using hands and legs by sitting on a stool.
In the second, two weavers with single loom constantly works for producing Uppada saree. Here, the works such as zari brocading are made on cotton fabrics. By making warp and weft continuously, weavers results beautiful cotton fabric. He throws the shuttle which is carrying weft.
The contrast embroidery works like zari, kundans, stones, beads and mirror works are involved in these sarees.
These are the most costly fabrics with dignified patterns. The motifs such as flowers, leafs, birds, animals, peacocks and other geometrical shapes are designed intricately.
Uppada sarees ranges from 3000/- to 20000/- as per the quality and designing works are considered.
Uppada cotton sarees with Jamdani works are the cool wears during hot summers. The designer Uppada Silk sarees with zari and floral works are suitable for corporate events and grand occasions. Uppada Pattu Sarees with rich designer works are apt for wedding ceremonies.
