Dwarka Somnath Temple Tour And Information
India is a country in which there are a lot of traditions and religious beliefs and this is the reason why there are many places of religious interest in the country that are popular among tourists. According to religious texts if a Hindu visits all the four Dhams then his soul can be liberated from all mortal evils. Dwarka is famous in the country for being one among the seven cities and also comes in the above mentioned four Dhams which makes it one of the important places to visit. It is also referred to as Suvarna Dwarka and it is placed along the Kutch Peninsula which faces the Arabian Sea. This was a very important sea port earlier but has become more famous in recent times for being a place of immense religious importance.
According to legend, Lord Krishna chose Dwarka as his abode after he had slayed his evil uncle Kansa. It is believed that Lord Krishna came here to reside with his family and the Yadavas followed him here. Another popular legend says that the old city was completely submerged under water and the present day city was rebuilt By Lord Vishwakarma. From religious texts and scriptures it was deduced ...
... that the old city was very well planned and had a lot of public amenities. The modern day city is located in the state of Gujarat and lies between the confluence of the Gulf of Kutch and the river Gomati.
Since this city is situated in the western-most region of the country it is not a very popular destination among foreigners but for Indians it is considered amongst the most important places of religious interest. But because of the religious importance attributed to this place ease of access has been ensured by the government as there are buses shuttling between Ahmedabad the capital of Gujarat and Dwarka daily. Dwarka is situated at a distance of 450 kms. From Ahmedabad and it takes around 8 to 9 hours by road to reach. For those looking for air travel options Jamnagar has the nearest possible airport and from there one can travel the remaining 150 kms. by road to reach Dwaka.
There are many temples in this city dedicated to lord Krishna, Shiva and other Hindu gods. One of the most famous temples in this city is the Somnath Temple and people from all over the country visit Dwarka to pay homage and pray here. At Somnath temple it is believed that 1 of the original 12 jyotir-lingas of Lord Shiva are present and hence this place is attributed so much importance. This temple was believed to be made by God Soma when he was liberated from a curse by Lord Shiva but after that it was destroyed many times and remade again.
In addition to the Somnath temple there are other beautiful places of tourist interest in Dwarka which are very popular. The Dwarkadhish temple here is another very famous temple here and some people even visit this city just to pay homage at this temple. Other important temples of interest in the city include the Rukhshmani temple, the Nageshwar temple as well as the Hanuman temple.
There are a lot of Dwarka Somnath tour packages that can be made use of to visit this wonderful city and one of the best times in the year to do so would be around the Navratras. At this time the entire city is lit up with bright and colourful lights and traditional dances are performed.
