When it's hot and humid, nothing would feel better than splashing into the ocean or a swimming a couple of laps in the pool. It sounds like a great idea but what do you wear? For most of the women, searching for the perfect swimsuit is like next to mission impossible. And especially finding swimwear for women over 50, it can become even worse. So here are some tips that women of the older age must follow to get the best bathing suit that goes with their body-type.

1. Never buy swimsuit tops that don't provide the proper support. Little tube tops or skimpy triangle bikini tops just won’t suit your figure.
2. Do not buy bathing suits that are made out of shiny fabrics since it would only look good if you are skinny. If you are an average or large size woman, a shiny bathing suit will only add more pounds to your frame. Nylon, Lycra and Faille are some popular fabrics used for swimsuits because they resist fading and can hold their stretchiness. Often Nylon and Lycra are used together to offer more stretch ability then standard swimwear ...
... along with providing a shape, control and comfort to the wearer.
3. Do not buy swimsuits in colors that don't flatter your body. Despite the fact they are older, women over 50 still buy swimsuits in colours that are too bright. You must look for colours that will flatter you before and even after you tan.

4. Buy swimsuits that emphasize proportion. For e.g., if you have short legs you must look for suits that are high cut to elongate the legs. Another way is Colour blocking that aims to emphasize your attributes and de-emphasize your problematic areas. For e.g., if you have large hips, you should choose suits that have a dark colour block on the bottom and if you have a large bust and small hips, going for the opposite might be beneficial. Also, colour blocks on your midsection can emphasize your waistline.

Women over 50 don't exactly look forward to summers because that’s when they have to bring out the swimwear in the hope that the extra tummy flab gained over the years won't be bulging out. However, there is nothing to fret about since swimsuits today offer great stretch fabrics for easy mobility and plenty of options that might just hide or minimize any imperfections.
These days Tankini swimwear has become one of the hottest trends when it comes to swimwear. Apart from being stylish, it is practical and comfortable and can basically be worn by a woman of any body type.
