Things To Consider When Buying A Flow Meter
When planning to buy a flow meter, it is important to know for what purpose you are buying it. You should know what you are going to measure. Normally, liquids and gas are quantified by using gauges that calculate the flow in terms of liters per second or kilograms per second with relation to the material density. In fact there are a variety of devices that cater to different needs. This ensures that you do not use the same apparatus for two different applications. Hence, you have to choose a device that meets all your requirements. Finding such a device should not be a problem so long as you are able to take care of a few things.
What to Measure
The first thing you should do is determine whether the material to be measured is a liquid or gas. Then, determine the type of gas or liquid you are dealing with. Whether it is clean or not? Next, decide whether you want the data to be processed remotely or manually. You will also have to consider the temperature of the material as well as the plant and see whether the conditions are cold or hot. For instance when measuring hot water, you ...
... may need a device that can make up for any temperature change in order to get an accurate reading.
When dealing with liquids, consider the material’s conductive as well as corrosive properties, toxicity, liquid viscosity and the kind of piping involved. Likewise, when working with gases, check whether the gas is clean, wet, combustible, corrosive and toxic. You can choose a water or flow meter from amongst a wide range of devices that include magnetic, differential pressure, optical, open channel, energy, thermal, turbine and massive displacement, vortex or ultrasonic devices.
How Ultrasonic Flow Meters Work
An Ultrasonic flow meter is predominantly used in applications where there is a need for measuring flow of gases and liquids in an accurate manner. This device works by emitting ultrasonic signals through liquids remotely. It is able to receive echoes when reflected of air bubbles within the liquid. This meter helps in determining the speed of liquid flow in domestic as well as industrial applications. It can be used with oils, chemicals, waste water, pure water and liquid gases. For instance this instrument is used in off shore oil platforms for determining the speed of oil flow being pumped from beneath the ocean bed. Flow instruments are also used predominantly in food, mining and sewage industries.
