Controlling Spiders In Your Home
Spiders are one of the most misunderstood creatures on the face of the Earth, which is unfortunate for them. For the most part, they are pretty harmless, and they can actually be quite beneficial. That said, most people still do not want them in your home, though. Are you wondering how you can keep them out? Here are some tips that may help.
Know What You’re Dealing With
There are thousands of spider species on earth, but most of them aren’t very dangerous. Your best bet is to learn a bit about the most dangerous spiders and how to spot them. There are northern black widow spiders in Massachusetts, and if you travel, you may find a hobo spider or a brown recluse spider. The bites of all of these might be harmful to humans, but for the most part, they’re not going to kill you. Spiders don’t really want to bother you. They’ll only bite when they’re threatened. Learning more about exactly which kinds of spiders you may be fighting can be hugely beneficial.
Keep it Clean
One of the best things you can do to keep your spider problem at bay is to keep your home as clean and clutter free as possible. ...
... Clear out any spider hiding places, and vacuum regularly in corners and other spots spiders may want to hide. Try to keep things as dust and cobweb free as possible. You may want to do a serious cleaning about once a month just to ensure your problem doesn’t build up.
Look Outside
Spiders have to come from somewhere, and the most likely spot is outside. You may want to do a little outdoor pest management too. Close up any openings that may spell engraved invitation for a spider. If there are gaps in your screens or doors, you can bet that spiders will find those. If your find holes in your window screens, spiders will probably find those too. You should also seal up any cracks in the foundation or gaps between utility pipes and wires that might be coming into your home. Don’t forget to consider your landscaping too. If you have shrubs next to your house, overgrown patches of lawn, or trees right against the house, you might have spider problems too. Spiders may also take refuge in firewood piles, so you’ll need to locate those well away from your home. Doing some clutter management outside (as well as inside) is the perfect way to tell spiders to keep out.
Spiders are not necessarily a problem in most homes, but if you find they are an issue in yours, it may be a good idea to contact a professional pest management company to help you fight them and identify ways to keep them out of your home.
